My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Millie!

Millie's story is a unique one; one that will make you're heart both melt and break at the same time. Her previous owner has so much love for her that she made one of the hardest and best decisions she could for her beloved little companion, surrendering her to our care. Below is a small, heart warming glimpse of how Millie came to be loved by her previous owner; and the heart wrenching end to how she made her way to HSAR.

"I first met Millie in 2008, when I became a friend of a lady at our local party store. She invited me over for coffee and that's when I found out she had 9 little dogs she was fostering! Millie immediately attached herself to me, jumping on my lap and growling the other dogs away. She was so lovable and needy that I fell in love with her too. The 5th time she got out the door and tried to follow my car home, I went back and got a small baggie of the food she was eating and took her home...When I first brought her home, I learned from my friend that her first owners had bought her at 8 weeks old, to be a companion to their 3 year old Lhasa and 2 year old son. Lhasas are guard dogs, they bark and make noises. When the dogs would play, they growled and the owners were afraid one of them would hurt the little boy. So, they threw Millie out in the garage and merely fed and watered her. When, I got her, she didn't know her name, understood no commands and when you coaxed her to come she would drop on her belly and crawl the last few feet to you..." The story goes on of how her previous owner spent many, tireless hours and days, never giving up on little Millie to get her to trust again.

Now comes the part of the story of how Millie ended up here with us:

"Physical limitations on my ability to giver her even the basic necessities have forced me to this. It breaks my heart, but one of my problems is SIED, Systemic Immune Exhaustion Disease. I can sleep for well over a week at a time, only getting up a few times a day to grab a drink or food, let Millie out, use the restroom, etc. Millie will stay beside me or lie at the end of my recliner all this time. But,just last week, I realized I hadn't filled Millie's Food or water dishes for two days. I was horrified..."
It was at this point Millie's previous owner realized that her disability was preventing her from providing the necessary care for her and with a heavy heart, surrendered her little Millie to us in hopes that she will find her a forever home that will provide the same love, affection and care that she has always had.

If Millie's story touches your heart, stop by today and ask to meet with this sweet girl.
