Thor is a classic Shepherd estimated to be around 5 -6 years of age. Thor was a stray in Johnson County and unfortunately doesn't have a backstory. He gives the impression of a 'junk yard dog' with his injured ear and scars.

Thor is extremely sweet with all of the people he meets. He has been around children as young as 3 years old and simply adores them. He loves getting attention and thinks he would make a great lap dog. Although he is thought to be 5 or 6 Thor is still pretty energetic and will need plenty of exercise. His manners are still rough around the edges (and probably not as enforced as they should be) but he picks up quickly.

Thor is fostered with other dogs however he does have to be managed in regard to who he can interact with. Thor arrived with a pretty big chip on his shoulder and although he quickly lost his defensiveness with the other dogs he is still a dominate male and doesn't get along with some of the other males. There are some of his fellow foster dogs that can get Thor to play with them and he does well. When he arrived he seemed to be pretty socially awkward with the other dogs and didn't follow the other dogs cues. He has improved vastly but will need to either be an only dog or with a dog who is patient enough to tolerate him.

Thor is a really sweet boy and is craving human attention. He is searching for a family that understands that he has never been a loved member of the family and it is all new to him. He may mess up at times but he shows so much love that you can hardly be mad at him. He is patiently awaiting his new home and dreaming of new people to cuddle with.

About Tier Haven Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Tier Haven Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit animal rescue agency based in Louisville, KY that specializes in German Shepherds and similar working breeds. Tier Haven realizes that many German Shepherd Dogs (GSDs) find themselves in shelters due to a lack of training and understanding of the breed. Tier Haven is a no-kill rescue which limits the number of dogs we can care for at any given time for this reason Tier Haven focuses on taking dogs from shelters that are in direct risk of euthanasia and has a separate policy for owner surrenders.

Surrender Policy

Tier Haven accepts owner surrenders on a conditional basis due to the large number of dogs in kill shelters. If you have a dog you would like to surrender you must email pictures and the reason for surrendering to Tier Haven does charge a fee for surrendering a dog; $80 for a fully vetted dog (vaccinations, alter, heartworm test) when vet records are provided and $150 for un-vetted dogs.

Our Adoption Process...

Tier Haven requires an adoption application to be completed and processed prior to meeting or adopting any of our dogs. As a completely foster based organization Tier Haven relies on the application to help ensure that adopters are only meeting dogs that are suitable for their household based on various factors. The application is completed via email and you may email us at to obtain an application. When submitting an application please contact your vet clinic and provide them with a release of information and also inform your personal references that they will be contacted.

Once your application is processed you will be contacted by a volunteer to discuss potential dogs and arrange a meet and greet. Since we are a foster based group we only allow up to three (3) dogs on each meet and greet to keep it manageable for everyone. Meet and greets are often held at public locations to respect the privacy of our foster homes and they are scheduled at the discretion of the foster homes.

Tier Haven charges an adoption fee of $250 for each dog. This includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, heart-worm test, micro-chip, and monthly preventative care while with our organization. All medical records are provided at the time of adoption along with an adoption contract.
