My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A bit about Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue: We tend to go for the underdog in many cases. We try to give a chance to some of those that are left behind and we truly hope that when you read these bios, you read with an open heart and an open mind to embrace what we feel is the true meaning of rescue.

Please read entire bio before contacting rescue. Please contact Janet Cook of the Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. Make sure you check your spam folder for an e-mail reply from the rescue.

Maverick is a young, warm and friendly three-year-old Manchester Terrier/Rat Terrier mix rescued from the South L.A. Shelter. He is a tri-colored dog, chocolate brown, tan, and white, (NOT gray - these are white markings that sometimes photograph more “gray” looking when using a flash). He has big, expressive eyes, and his ears are big and cute; one stands very straight up in the air, the other one has a slight bend. Everyone who meets him likes him and comment on how cute he is so my conclusion is that he must be must cuter in person and his personality factors in. Maverick is not just another Chihuahua type; he is actually a larger terrier, about 21 lbs. He is a great size if you do not want a tiny dog, while still having a dog on the smaller side!

Maverick is an endearing dog who greets all strangers well. He enjoys the company of humans, and also other dogs, but he also has an independent side to him too. He likes to go by himself on the human bed to chill, or on the porch in the sun, but he also shares pet beds with the other dogs. He does not play interactively with other dogs, but he co-exists well with them, and other dogs seem to like him. He is a quiet companion and often just finds a pet bed to lie on in the same room that you are working in. He is crate-trained and after having a rawhide chew as a bedtime snack sleeps quietly in his crate each night.

Maverick is not destructive. He never chews on anything other than his rawhides or toys. He enjoys toys and has the ability to entertain himself. Maverick is not a high maintenance dog whereby you have to be meeting his needs all of the time. He is a cool, chill dog. He is also not a barker. On seldom occasions he barks (he has a very low bark) because all of the other dogs are barking about something fun or exciting about to happen; otherwise, he is as quiet as a mouse.

Maverick was saved from the shelter with a fractured hip socket (most likely due to being hit by a car), and Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue raised the money for an orthopedic surgery (that occurred on Jan 16th, 2015). Maverick needs a chance with someone who understands that even a dog with a prior injury is still deserving of a loving, forever home. Few to none have inquired about Maverick and this has saddened me as a rescuer because Maverick is such a sweet dog. While Maverick will never be a running or hiking dog, he is a normal dog who can pretty much do whatever the other dogs do. So if you just want an easy dog that rides well in the car, is well behaved in public, takes easy walks, goes on outings to the park, or keeps great company to you or to your already existing dog, Maverick is a great choice. He would love to have another dog in the home to hang with when folks are away from home, but he can also be an only dog in the home if he is able to also go places with you and do things on occasion too.

Maverick is potty-trained (however potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment) and seems to do best with free access to a yard either by way of a dog door or an open door. He is fully vetted, neutered, vaccinated, including rabies, dewormed, and also micro-chipped. Though the rescue paid a large sum helping Maverick, this does not change the standard adoption fee. If you are interested in discussing Maverick, please contact Angels Heart Dog Rescue at adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. The phone number to the rescue is: 626-340-9316. There is no need to phone the rescue until you have first submitted an interest via e-mail. Please visit my website at: http://www.angelsheartdogrescue.com and go to the Adoption Tab to read about the adoption process and fees; thank you!
