Scout's Story...
**Scout is currently living in Houston, Texas and is available for out of state adoption. His total adoption fee is $450, which covers his vetting, airline ticket, travel kennel, comfy bed and travel documents. He is available to “meet” via video chat with an approved adoption applications.**

Scout is our happy-go-lucky, free spirited, scruffy, black Schnauzer/Terrier mix. He’s the type of dog that has a constant smile on his face, but won’t sit still long enough for you to get a good look at it because he has important things to do, like chewing on antlers and chasing dragonflies.

This charming 1 year old neutered male was rescued out of our county shelter. That was not the place for him and he had different plans for life and fortunately Reggie’s Friends stepped in to make his dreams reality. He is only 35 pounds full grown! He has 2 looks, the shaggy look and the clean cut look after a groom. His charcoal and white coat is soft and scruffy at the same time.

This guy has lots of spunk and energy and truly needs a family that is outside more than inside. He will be the most fantastic companion for a family that hikes, runs, bikes, goes to the park, likes to throw a ball and just live life to the fullest. He will wake up with a grin on his face every morning and fall asleep with his head on your lap, still smiling. Despite his love for action, he really loves his people and spending time with them just as much.

The reason he landed at the local shelter is because he wasn’t a good match for his first family. They had small children that were not on the same activity level as Scout. One can see how it would be tough not to pick him with all this cuteness and smaller size, but knowing his needs will allow you to make sure you will complement each other’s lives.

As with most Schnauzers and Terriers, Scout is a talker. He will let you know when he needs your affection, a treat or when he wants out of his kennel. He still barks at people that come to visit him, however it’s not in an aggressive way; he is simply letting you know he’s there and would like to meet you. He’s the “greeter” in the pack here. He is a bit mouthy too, but this is different than biting…this is simply to get your attention, however we are working on helping him to stop that habit as it can be seen as unfriendly. He is also working on his leash skills and basic commands, which is not surprising since we are pretty sure that he hasn’t had any real training prior to joining our group. He currently pulls quite a bit on his leash as he is walking, but he seems to be much better on his leash if he is allowed to run off his energy for a few minutes prior to his leash walk.

He is very treat motivated, so we are using that to our advantage in his training exercises. His caretaker thinks he is going to excel at agility and other sports because of his intelligence, drive, speed and dedication to his pack leader.

An ideal situation for Scout is a very active, fun, go-getter type family. He is too much action for young children, but kids 10 and older would have a great time with this guy. He needs activity, adventure and affection too. He loves to bounce around and act like a clown, so he’s better suited for a house with a yard rather than an apartment. He loves to chew on antlers, chew bones, play with tug toys and much more. He needs someone that will hang a stocking for him during the holidays and fill it up! He’s a lover and wants someone to spend most of his time with as soon as possible. He gets along great with all other dogs, but would really do best having another active dog to play with in his new family. He likes to chase cats for fun, so a family with cats wouldn’t be a good fit.

Scout is neutered, current on his vaccines, microchipped and very healthy. He is a scruffy boy whom will probably need a few trips to the groomer during the year as well. He’s young, spunky and lovable, so if you think that you could use his uplifting grin to begin your days, please email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org. Scout lives in Houston, Texas currently and is available for local adoption. His adoption fee $250 to cover the cost of his vetting.
