My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! I’m Elzee!

I am a small female Harlequin. I’m often told how pretty I am, even with a heart shape on my back.

I am approximately 2-3 years old.

I was given up to a shelter by my former owner. I had a litter of puppies. I was still producing milk and developed mastitis. I was severely underweight, weighing 79 lbs (I’m now at 86lbs!). I was covered in fleas and had raw patches from scratching. I had a “happy tail” and is in pretty bad case so, my tail will be amputated any day now.

I am house-trained (when I need to go potty, I cry to let you know)

I am crate-trained.

I have not exhibited any separation anxiety.

I live with three canine siblings (all Great Danes) and I have never shown any guarding issues on anything.

I get along just fine with other dogs and do enjoy playing with them, but I must say that I do enjoy being a loner.

I’m a mellow gal who lays around most of the time. I love to play with my stuffed bear named “Baby”. I like to sleep with my Baby bear and I will not let other dogs take my Baby bear. Please be aware that I have no guarding issue at all. I simply put my paw or my head over my Baby bear if the other dogs are interested in my Baby bear. If they succeed in taking my Baby bear, I will gently take my Baby bear back and lay down with it.

You see, just a short time ago, I didn’t know what toys, much less how to play or sleep with them. Until I was introduced to my Baby bear. Maybe it’s because I’m missing my babies (puppies).

I like cats but I do ignore them. If the cat instigates me to chase him, I will chase him. If you tell me “no”, I will immediately stop chasing.

My nifty foster momma says that I know these commands:
Sit
Lay down
Get off
Stay (I will stay until you say “ok”)
No
Come
Outside
Kennel (to go into my crate)

As mentioned earlier, I didn’t know what toys were. I’m slowly learning on how to play with toys. I just learned how to play with the rope. See me at this link:

I’ll need a little help in learning not to pull during the walk. Will you help me?

Like most human ladies, I do have a tendency to talk (bark) too much. I’m happy to report that I’ve been showing restraint on not talking too much.

I love car ride! Once I entered into the car, I’ll immediately jump onto the front seat and help co-pilot. I need to learn that it is not legal for me to co-pilot and be seated in the back seat. Who came up with these stupid rules?!?

During petting, I have a tendency to mouth the hands. When I do that, I’d do a “love nibbles”. I honestly didn’t know that can hurt and that makes me feel bad. I’ve been working hard on not giving “love nibbles” but, I do need to be reminded. Especially with little children!

I LOVE to be on the couch but, it’s against the rescue policy. I need to be reminded not to be on the couch ——- unless you don’t mind me on your couch!
