My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Little Kenzy landed in a local shelter as an owner surrender due to landlord pressures. It was a very scary change of environment for her and she was not adjusting well. On several occasions she tried to nip shelter personnel, so could not be considered adoptable to the general public.

In hopes that Kenzy would feel less threatened in a home setting, Dusty Paws pulled her into foster. Her foster mom has a lot of experience with frightened and shy little dogs, and for the first half hour she ignored Kenzy and left her alone. Sure enough, Kenzy then happily jumped in her lap, let her trim knots from her tummy, comb her and check ears and mouth. This is the real Kenzy and is how she will behave when she trusts her new guardian.

However, Dusty Paws must be selective about the home she goes into – adults only. We are working on getting her socialized when out in public and hope with time and patience she will feel more comfortable with strangers. She is so cute everyone wants to bend down and say hi, but care needs to be taken when she is around people as she may try to nip/bite. Since Kenzy does not do well at the showings we are hoping for an applicant local to Castro Valley/San Leandro since the meet and greet will be done at the applicant's home.

In the home Kenzy is a great dog. She’ll sleep quietly in a crate or on the bed. She is housetrained using a doggie door. She loves her toys and gets along fine with the other foster dogs. Kenzy is about three years old and weighs 15 lbs.
