My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Savannah is a sweet “old soul” who caught our attention on a recent trip to Chicago’s Animal Care and Control. When we walked by her cage, it was all she could do to get up and say hi. It was obvious that this gentle girl was very, very sick, so we scooped her up and brought her to our vet. She received emergency hydration via I.V. and was put on antibiotics immediately, and her severe health funk cleared up right away!


Once Savannah was feeling better, we were surprised to see what a happy gal lurked inside this shy exterior. Savannah is learning that people are good and that no one we introduce to her will hurt her. At first, she was leery of strange men and would cower behind her handler. Now, she will go up to just about anyone for pets and hugs! This wonderful dog bonds strongly to her handlers and will be a great pet for just about any kind of adopter.


Savannah likes other dogs but isn’t so crazy about them that she would require a dog pal. She is currently living in a foster home with an older cat, so kitty friends can be considered. She appears to be housetrained and walks well on a leash, although she sure loves a good squirrel chase! We’ve seen Savannah around children, and believe that she would do ok in a home with slightly older kids. All in all, she is a jewel in the rough and we’re lucky to have found her!
