My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET MAIZIE -

Do you ever just know that you're doing the right thing? I mean, just really know it down to the very core of your being? Well that's how we feel about rescuing this adorable, tiny (8 lb) red smooth princess doxie named MAIZIE from a backyard breeder. She is just 20 months old and 6 weeks ago had a litter of puppies. Sadly, the puppies were deformed and not available for us to rescue. MAIZIE is super sweet and so grateful to have been rescued (she loves her new pink collar, leash, halter and blankets) but she really needs a loving, forever home to grow up in. MAIZIE would likely do best in a quiet, loving and stable doxie savvy home. However, she is young and loving, so may also do well in a family with stay at home/work from home parents and older children (over the age of 10) who understand the very special needs of Dachshunds.

NOTE FROM ODR, INC.

It is our policy to spay before adoption, but in this case, MAIZIE she still has milk so she isn't ready to be spayed just yet, but we'd like to help her find her forever home as quickly as possible. With that in mind, her forever family will need to sign a legal agreement to spay in approx 30 days. Also, at 8lbs, she is very underweight, so her new family must be able to provide healthy, home cooked meals for her.

OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give MAIZIE a happy, carefree life that she deserves? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in touch with you within 48 -72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
