My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Last year Nicki was taken to a shelter because his family wasn't willing to Beagle-proof their yard. Three-year-old Nicki is once again looking for a new home because his family is relocating and is unable to take him along. This handsome red and white boy is 15 inches tall and a muscular 28 pounds. Nicki is the sweetest, most laid-back boy you could ask for until he gets the scent of a rabbit or other critter. Once he gets the scent, he will dig out of the yard in hot pursuit. It is amazing how fast he can go from taking a slow stroll around the yard to digging frantically for freedom. He will need a yard that is lined with large rocks or supervision when out in the yard. A rabbit-free home would be perfect. He has added climbing chain link fencing to his bag of tricks, so wooden fences only for Nicki. We don't have a dog door, but Nicki knows how to use them well from his past home.

Nicki has great house manners and doesn't get into anything he shouldn't have (unless something yummy is left on a low table! He is, after all, a Beagle and card-carrying chowhound). He walks well with much less tugging on the leash than most Beagles unless he sees a squirrel to chase. He is super-affectionate and is happiest on the sofa with his head on your lap but always waits for an invitation to jump up. As I write this, he is under my computer desk with his head on top of my foot waiting for the occasional pat. Nicki fits in well with his foster brother and sister (one laid-back male and one alpha wild child female) and joins in the playing with them in the yard or the house. He loves cuddling and attention so much, though, that he would enjoy being that special "only dog" also. He will stay kenneled without being too vocal, but he clearly doesn't like a kennel and will sometimes pant and drool while kenneled. He would be best in a home where he spends minimal time in a kennel; and he is a good enough boy that he can be left out of the kennel without any misbehaving. He adapted to life in his foster home very quickly and easily. By the second or third day, we were his family and he was clearly enjoying being someone's fellow. If you would like a well-behaved little guy who really loves as much affection and attention as you can shower on him, this sweet boy may be your next true love.
