My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi!!!! I'm going to introduce myself to you! Yes I am!!

My name is Sugar and I'm an absolutely adorable American Bulldog and English Bulldog mix. Can you believe I am only a puppy??!! I'm about 6 months old and already weigh 50 pounds! I was named Sugar because I am white and sweet…and I have a lot of energy!! I have the body of an American Bulldog but the smooshy, totally adorable face of the English Bulldog. I even have a little bulldoggie kink in my long tail. I still have some filling out to do so I will be a large sized dog when I’m done growing.

I'm so surprised to hear that some people think Bulldogs are lazy and like to sit around and snore a lot. The only part of that perception of my breed is that I snore. I'm not sure why people think bulldogs are low energy dogs? Boy, are they ever wrong! I have a ton of energy and being a bulldog, well I'm a little stubborn. Okay. I can be quite stubborn. But I'm just adorable and so friendly and so happy!!! I just really need a calm and assertive person to help me as I learn how to be a fantastic dog! My foster mom has been taking me to dog school and I love it there! So many other dogs to see and lots of treats to help me learn. I love treats! I love food of all kinds! My foster mom says whoever adopts me needs to keep taking me to dog school to that I continue to learn and listen and get to be a smart girl who knows lots of skills. I would like that as I like class and I want to be the smartest Bulldog ever!

I was found with a few other dogs in the country and no one claimed us. I'm not sure why because I am a fantastic and happy and boisterous puppy who loves life and loves people and loves to play!!! I overheard my rescuers talking to my foster mom and they said that I was from a puppy mill and we and the others escaped. All I know is that where I was before was terrible and we weren’t fed or kept in a clean area. I was super skinny when I was found...we all were. They said that I’m the luckiest one though ‘cuz I am so young…the hard life hasn’t killed my spirit and I will bounce back the fastest. All I know is that I love to bounce so bounce back I did! My foster mom says that I am doing great!

I love to play and I play hard!! I am best suited for someone who has had experience with my type of breed and who will commit to continuing my training. I tend to bulldoze people when I am excited (which is a LOT) so
I'm really not suited for children under 12 years old. I am really not suited for a first-time dog owner. I am being fostered with cats and I really, really like to chase them. It's so much fun!! So I'm best with cats who can tolerate a bulldog puppy. I'm also being fostered with a big and a small dog. I like to be the boss of all dogs in the house so I'm best suited in a home where I will be the only dog (and get all of the attention!) or another dog that doesn't mind my headstrong bossiness! I would not do well in a home with another female dog as I want to be the only girl dog in the home. Ya, I’m that kind of girl…J Don’t hate me ‘cuz I'm beautiful…and I know it! HA!

I would love an active home!! I love to run and chase things and run and play and run and chase things and play and run!!! Wow, I'm not even tired! The world is such a fun place to be and I love all of it.

I picked up on housetraining right away! Yay me!! That was easy! When I need to go out to do my 'business', I sit by the door. I am patient while I sit and wait to be let out. For a short while. Then I say "HEY! Let me
out!". It works.

Bulldogs are very loyal companions. I love always touching my foster mom. I lean right up against her most times. I follow her all over the house. Of course chasing cats or other dogs or chewing a toy along the way. I can
chew and run at the same time! I am very talented.

I am crate trained too. Iam in my crate during the day when my foster mom is at work. I love sleeping and snoring in my crate.

I am a fun-loving energetic and happy puppy who would love an energetic family and a strong, calm assertive person or people! I will make a totally devoted, faithful, loyal companion who will give you a ton of kisses while wagging my tail!

….and here’s a note from my rescuers at PDR:

Sugar is an energetic, happy, loveable, doll of a dog but she needs a specific home. Her good looks and super cuteness are sure to attract a lot of people but we need to make sure that she is going to a forever home that is suited to a young, large, Bulldog puppy. She is easily excited so she needs a calm home with calm, assertive people who will praise her in a relaxed manner and not feed into her enthusiasm. She can easily get over excited if fed too much energy by excitable people. She is a real pleaser and catches on to new skills quickly so this needs to be taken advantage of and we are looking for a family that will take her to multiple levels of obedience training to bring out the best in this girl. She is an active dog and needs active people capable of exercising her properly and keeping her fit, physically and mentally. She is a stubborn breed so can be head strong and as such needs patient people who won’t give in and let her have her own way and will enforce the rules of the house. She is prime in her puppy chewing stage right now so she needs constant supervision in the home, or to be crated at all times when you leave. A Bulldog puppy is a strong chewer and can be quite destructive if bored and left to their own devices.

She attracts A LOT of attention when out and about …we had her at a promotional event at a pet store and she was a hit with everyone and had many people inquire about her. She was on her best behaviour and we couldn’t have been more pleased with her, but we also had her with an experienced handler who enforced the rules and made her “sit” when greeting others and who did not allow her to rush up to every dog in the store. Sugar is at her best with rules and structure. This is why she is only suitable for experienced persons who are capable of handling a “power breed” and are confident leaders. She needs consistency and to have the rules abided by at all times, not hit and miss, as she will take full advantage of that. She is young and mouldable and highly trainable. She will be an EXCELLENT dog in the right hands. She is a fun and happy dog that is a total clown…she will make you laugh daily! We are being stringent here because we want the best for Sugar and we know that we are going to get a lot of people wanting her because she is adorable. Yes, she is. We can’t help smooshing her face and giving her kisses either…but beyond that she is a powerful, young, energetic Bulldog that needs exercise, training, love and someone to commit to bringing out the very best in our happy, fun loving girl. We know that person or family is out there.

So if you love the Bullie breeds and have the time and energy and experience to handle this little imp then we want to hear from you!
