Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Ivy is a 6 month old beagle girl who had a bad start in life. At merely 6 weeks of age, Ivy bit someone, as all puppies have a tendency to do. So this peanut of a girl spent the next month at a shelter in quarantine until rescued by HBHR. Ivy is currently almost 13 inches tall and weighs 18 pounds. She has a great appetite, but plays hard and has been adding weight slowly.
Plays hard is an understatement. This girl has no fear of other dogs. She will stand on her hind legs to ask 100 pound labs to play! In her foster home she has a pack of beagles to pay with, but usually has a favorite one to buddy up with and one to snuggle with. She loves to chase, wrestle, play tug. She amazed me one day by actually bringing a tennis ball back and laying it at my feet. As her head is not much bigger than a tennis ball, it was quite a feat to carry the ball anyway! She has been house broken for over a month. Now that she is big enough to use the dog door, she is in and out all day without any accidents. She sleeps at night on a dog bed. With plenty of toys and bones to chew on, Ivy has never gotten into anything not meant for her.
Probably because of the lack of human contact during her month in quarantine, Ivy is very skittish around people. It has taken her the last 2 months to feel comfortable with her foster Mom. Ivy will now allow you to reach out and pet her, but still has a tendency to shy away from you. Once she is picked up, Ivy will relax against you and seems to enjoy the closeness and cuddle time. Ivy is a sweet and funny girl who needs attention and lots of love.
Ivy has never walked on a leash. She immediately goes spread eagle on the ground when it is placed on her. She will prance along beside one of the other beagles, if they are on a leash and will even hold it in her mouth as she walks, but not when it is on her collar! Ivy and her new family will benefit greatly from some puppy classes. Ivy will need a family that has experience with beagles and a canine buddy to play with. Newbies to the canine world should not apply to adopt Ivy because she definitely will require an experienced owner!
