My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The current guess is that Hope is a 5 year old retriever mix. Upon her arrival she was quite scared and found solace in her "cave" in the downstairs bedroom for the first few days but that seems to be in the past. Hope sleeps upstairs now on the floor next to her foster Mom and Dad. Hope has become very comfortable with her foster family after about three days but is guarded with most new people. She will need to get to know them on her terms. It is not clear yet if her apprehension is a male, female or both genders issue. I would not recommend a home with children at this time. Hope has had opportunities to meet other dogs and is pretty excited doing so therefore having another dog in her future home would be a plus. We have no idea of how she would be with cats.

Hope loves to go for walks and is very interested in the new sights and sounds. She would benefit from some training, as she wants to lead. I don't anticipate any problems in modifying this habit. Hope loves the recent snow and will roll around and run through the back yard. It is fun to watch. She is house broken and knows a few basic commands.

When Hope arrived she was shaved from her shoulders to the beginning of her tail due to excessive matting of the fur in case you are wondering why she looks a bit different. We are anxious to see what she will look like after her fur grows back as we suspect it will be quite wavy and very soft. There are no major medical issues although she is about through being treated for kennel cough and that treatment is virtually completed. She could stand to lose about 5 to 7 lbs off her current 60 lb weight but don't expect problems considering she is now on a proper diet and getting regular exercise.

With some patience Hope will be a very loving and loyal family member as she has demonstrated with her current foster family. She will sit on the couch with us and has no hesitation with the foster family giving hugs but be prepared as she is quick with the tongue in giving kisses back.
