Freckles's Story...
Freckles is an amazing, mid sized dog that would fit into just about any family. He is well trained, very sociable but reserved, friendly and happy with everyone including other dogs and cats. Freckles would be fine with respectful children of all ages and will make someone a very best friend. He is a wonderful little companion that is both small enough to be a lap dog but big enough to keep up with the big boys. He is approximately 1 1/2 – 2 years old and currently weighs 23 lbs.

Freckles has been a dream to foster and is truly one of a kind both in terms of looks and personality. He is a true snuggle bug who loves having his people close and is happy to occupy any available lap. Freckles presents as a dog that was once someone’s well loved pet, he has impeccable manners and loves human contact. If you crouch down on the ground Freckles will put his front paws on your knees and rest his head on your shoulder like he is giving you a hug, he may even try and sneak a kiss. Freckles is a very unique looking guy, he looks like he is wearing black eye liner and has one chocolate brown ear and one white ear with chocolate brown spots. Freckles is a great size and is not too big or too small, he is big enough to still be a lap dog but not so small that he cannot participate in an active lifestyle. Freckles is by far the most well behaved dog I have ever fostered, someone clearly took the time to train this special boy. Freckles loves nothing more then to do what he thinks is right and hear the phrase ” good freckles!”. Like many new Canadians Freckles is not a fan of the cold weather and prefers short walks for now with a good warm coat. Upon coming into the house after a walk Freckles will sit and then offer his front paws for drying.

Freckles’s puppy energy is starting to show and he acts very much like a dog that is under 2 years old. Freckles gives very enthusiastic greetings when he first sees you in the morning but settles down quickly. Freckles has a moderate energy level. He is very enthusiastic and gives great greetings but his favorite activity by far is snuggling. Freckles has not shown any interest in toys and is skilled at turning any attempt at play into a snuggle fest in less then 30 seconds.

Freckles is friendly but a little cautious of new people. Freckles mimics the energy of people around him, if someone approaches him confidently he is eager for a pet. Freckles warms up to people quickly and had found a spot in my lap within 5 minutes of arriving in my home. Freckles settled into his foster home very quickly. Freckles may need a minute to approach new people but once he does I guarantee you will have a friend for life. Freckles has met some children that he liked almost instantly as they were patient and respectful of his initial hesitancy and waited a few seconds for him to approach them. Freckles seems to be much more confident meeting people indoors then strangers on the street.

Freckles is great with other dogs! Because of his laid back personality Freckles would be fine with a cat as well. My cat introduced herself to Freckles his first night here ( something she has never done before) and has been much more comfortable with Freckles around then she has been with any other foster dog.

Freckles does not have any fears and presents as a calm confident dog. Freckles loves to cuddle/be close to you, spend time in his dog bed, go for short walks ( longer once the weather warms up), give enthusiastic greetings to his friends, show off his tricks, please foster mom by being such a good boy (being told he is a good dog is very important to him). Although Freckles’s very favorite thing is to snuggle, he is not demanding of attention and if you are busy he will settle down in his dog bed and wait till you are free.

Freckles has impeccable house manners, he does not chew or show interest in anything that does not belong to him. Freckles shows no interest in people food. He has excellent recall and always responds to his name. Freckles also knows sit, paw and is working on down. Freckles will always sit while I am getting ready to take him for a walk and I will catch him doing tricks by himself ( sit pretty and give paw) to pass the time while he is waiting to leave, its unbelievably cute. Freckles has also been taught at some point to sit while he is waiting to be fed. Freckles is fully house trained once a clear routine is developed between him and his caregiver. Freckles is very well crate trained and only whines for a few minutes. Freckles is not attached to his crate and does not use it as a safe/quiet space, he uses his dog bed for that. Freckles would most likely be fine if left uncrated because he is so calm and relaxed but is easily crated as well. Freckles has been well leash trained and never pulls. Freckles tends to walk right at your side while on a walk. Freckles is very calm in the car and enjoys looking out the window or having a little nap.

Freckles is such a little people pleaser and loves nothing more then to be told what a good dog he is. When he is given this feedback his whole body wiggles and he trots around the room. Freckles amazes me on a daily bases with his manners and obedience skills, he constantly exceeds my expectations and gives everything he does 110%. Freckles loves to cuddle and be close to his people. Someone took the time to make sure Freckles had a great obedience skills and house manners. Freckles will be someone’s best friend and constant companion. Although I would love to keep Freckles around, the perfect home for him is out there and he is more then ready to complete the journey to his new life. I have never met a dog that worked as hard as Freckles to please his people, he has so much love to give. Freckles is so deserving of a great home and will give his new family so much love in return.

If you would like to make Freckles a part of your family, please submit an application for consideration.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Freckles, a Hamilton Boxer/Chihuahua dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Boxer/Chihuahua for sale in Hamilton, or seeking a Boxer/Chihuahua dog from a breeder in Hamilton.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Hamilton already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Hamilton breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Boxer/Chihuahua breeders who help with Boxer/Chihuahua rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Hamilton paves the way for another one to be saved.
