Maggie has been at the rescue...  for many moons, now.
She arrived at the tender age of just a year and a half...  and is rolling into her fifth fall season with us. Maggie dreams of a day when she can go to a wonderful place called 'home'. A place where there are people that love her and she can show them what a fantastic girl she has turned out to be. She would love to show someone how much she loves life! Being outside, laying in the grass, and playing with her toys. She LOVES toys!!!! We let her loose in our small yard or tie her out on a 30 foot line- and she will quietly play, for hours on end!  She also loves to go for long walks and explores the big, bold world with just her nose. Cuddle time is a must - she loves to be rubbed on, scratched behind the ears, and get kissed on her head. She will usually sneak a quick one, right back at you, on your lips or cheek....and then playfully dart away! Maggie is very good with her things. She does not rip them up or tear them open. Her own toys, pillows, blankets, food and water dishes. She likes her stuff to stay nice and neat and does not like to share with other dogs. It is because of this, that we suggest that she be the only dog in a household. Maggie has been loved, dearly, for many years by all of the volunteers at the rescue. They all have had nick-names for her. Mags, Mag-Pie, Magda-loon, Sweet Maggie May. Personally, for the past couple of years, I have taken to calling her Maggie Moon (and with good reason).
You see, Maggie knows exactly how long she has been at the rescue, because she has counted the cycles of Mister Moon. She talks to him at night- and even sleeps within his light. It is like a ritual for her that every evening, before Maggie falls asleep, she lays down on the concrete floor of her kennel and looks up into the big night sky. Then she gently crosses her front paws... and lets out a giant sigh. 'I am a very good girl. As sweet and humbled - as a rescue dog can be. Once again, please Mister Moon, send someone here tomorrow.... to come and just pick me.'
If you have always wanted to rescue, just one dog, and change a life....Sweet Maggie Moon still waits for you!

Please come out and meet our Maggie Moon!! She gives GREAT doggie kisses and will warm your heart with her big smiling face!!

About Free Spirit Siberian Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Free Spirit Siberian Rescue has been helping homeless Huskies and Husky mixes since 1999. We are a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) no-kill rescue located in northern Illinois, dedicated to placing our dogs in permanent, loving homes. By adopting a homeless pet, you will be giving two animals--the one you adopt and the other that will have a place available at our rescue--a second chance at life.

We operate solely from donations and are volunteer driven. Please mail all donations to Free Spirit Siberian Rescue
P.O. Box 626
Harvard, IL 60033

Volunteers are always needed and welcomed. Please visit our website for more information about how you can help.

Our Adoption Process...

We review and pre-screen applications in the order they are received. If we have any immediate questions or concerns, we contact you by email. If the application looks good on paper, we have one of our Adoption Coordinators call for a phone interview. We'll check references (including landlord and vet if appropriate). Depending on the responsiveness of the references, this step can take some time. Our adoption screening process allows us to get to know you and your family, so that we can make informed suggestions about dogs that would best suit your personality, lifestyle, and household (including other adults, kids, current dogs, and cats).

If you are approved for adoption, we'll then arrange a time for you to come to the rescue and meet some of the rescue dogs. Because we are an all volunteer run organization, we need to schedule a time for you to visit the rescue. Appointment times are limited and are reserved for individuals/families who have been approved for adoption. We require all household members, including current dogs, to be present at the appointment. The meet and greet helps to ensure that the dog is a good match for your family in general and any current dog(s) in particular. Current dogs/cats must be spayed/neutered, up to date on all vaccines, on Heartworm prevention medication, and kept inside as indoor family members (per the terms and conditions of our Adoption Contract).

We cannot hold dogs and cannot guarantee that a particular dog will still be available at the time of the appointment. We also suggest that you review our website ( for the most current information and do your best to identify a few dogs that you may be interested in. Additionally, if you can explain why you've selected them that also helps us to identify the characteristics that are most important to you which will assist us in making a better match between you and a potential dog.

If an adoption match is made, you should be prepared to provide a deposit by cash or check. A minimum of ½ of the adoption fee is required. Note that adoption fees vary by age of the dog. Please visit our website for a detailed scale and information about what the adoption fee covers.

You will then schedule a delivery date. The dog will be groomed prior to going home and delivered at a later scheduled date with all medical records. Dogs will not be delivered the same day as the adoption appointment. We must transport the dog to you in order to do a home inspection at the time of delivery.

If you meet the above requirements with your current dog/cat, are over 21, within a four-hour drive of Harvard, IL and are interested in adopting through us, please fill out an application at

If you have any additional questions, please contact us at

We look forward to receiving your application.
