My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Boss is very happy old guy who has taken all the recent changes in his life with good cheer. Boss came to Midwest BREW from a rural animal control where he came in as a stray, and it is likely that he lived outdoors. We know Boss is a senior, but his exact age is hard to guess. He has good mobility and a healthy energy level for a senior, but his teeth were so horrid that all of his back teeth on each side were just a solid black mass on the top and bottom. Boss ended up having 24 teeth removed, but his remaining teeth serve him well for eating and he even still enjoys chewing on bones. He also loves to play with stuffy toys, and if none are available, he may just pull some stuff off the table to see if there is anything soft to grab hold of.

Soon after coming to his foster home, Boss got the nickname Magoo because of his squinty eyesight and scrunchy face. He doesn’t see or hear all that great, but has all the faculties he needs to find food! Food time is the highlight of Boss’ day, and he will take advantage of any chance to get in on a food opportunity, including cat food, other dogs’ food, anything on the table, etc. He sometimes snarks with other dogs around the food cabinet during feeding time, although with a limited set of teeth, it’s usually just a lot of noise.

The main thing that Boss’s new home will have to work on is house training. Boss likely didn’t live in a house for most of his life, and he has quite a ways to go towards learning to go potty outside. He stays in a crate during the day where he almost never has accidents, but so far, he does not like to go outdoors and has to be carried out for potty breaks. We will keep working on house training and will share any progress that is made.

Boss does well with cats and other dogs in his foster home as long as there is no food to be jealous of. He loves attention from people and always has a happy tail wag, yet he doesn’t pester for attention and he also doesn’t get on furniture. Thank you for reading about Boss, and please let us know if you have any questions.
