My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

It is amazing how so many snuggles can be packed into seven little pounds of sweetness! That’s Ciera, this tiny bundle of joy, always eager to nuzzle in closely (especially near necks) and give kisses. In one week’s time, this girl has blossomed from a cautious Chihuahua mix to an engaging, spunky little one that has learned that a new life of freedom offers safe, fun adventures to explore after all. For example, who knew that chasing a leaf or a resident dog’s ball could be so entertaining; that mastering stairs would be so easy; or that running fast circles in the grass feels wonderful?!

Ciera loves her people, and is content to be wherever they are. If a human lap is not available, she is quite content to nestle in on the back of the couch – or on a soft blanket on the cushions, surrounded by her favorite toys. Ciera reminds her foster parents how adorable she is by gently pawing on the back of a leg or expressing a request that sounds similar to a squeak toy. Only a couple of mini barks have escaped, and only when a neighbor or resident dog speaks first. It’s obvious by each little cock of her head that she is a very inquisitive girl. She’s intrigued by & enjoys shadowing & playing with her two resident furry sisters.

At approximately one year of age, Ciera is working on housetraining, and has only had a few accidents. She is taken outside on a regular schedule. Ciera sleeps in bed with her foster parents, and has been content through the night. Thus far, she has just been left in her crate for 3 hours during the day when her foster parents are away. She does not appear to be upset when they leave or return. Ciera is friendly toward new people, but she has not yet spent time with children or cats.

Ciera would be delighted to find a forever home that would appreciate her endearing mix of mellow goofiness -- and where her most endearing desire would be treasured… to simply give & receive well-deserved love! She came from a home with many other dogs and would likely do best in a home with another doggie friend. Ciera is estimated to be about 10-12 months old and weighs about 7 pounds. Since we don't know at all what doggy genes are in the dogs make up (we don't know who mom and dad are!), we are just guessing on breed and size when grown.

All dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. They have all had a vet exam, are up to date on vaccinations, have been given a dewormer, are treated for fleas, have a heartworm test if over 6 months old and are up to date on a heartworm preventative.

Please note that because we require a home visit at the time of adoption we can only place animals in homes within a 60 mile radius of Minneapolis. If you are interested in meeting this dog please fill out the pre-adoption application on our website at http://www.safehandsrescue.org under Adopt and we will get back to you to arrange a meeting in the foster home.

We also have an Adoptable Dog Meet & Greet on Saturday May 2 2015, at Fetch Delivers Warehouse, 783 Harding St. NE. Suite 150, Minneapolis, MN 55413, from noon - 2 pm. Occasionally dogs cannot make it to the Meet & Greet, therefore feel free to verify if your dog of interest is able to attend. Please bring a copy of your pre-adoption application.
