Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Joey is 2 1/2 years old and weighs 13.2 lbs, he originally came to us from the Hollister shelter. After being picked up by Animal Control for the third time his owners were not allowed to take him back. Previously he was allowed to roam the streets and do as he pleased. Roaming was too dangerous for Joey, plus he was not being taken care of. No rules, or boundaries. In the shelter he was mistrusting of the officers, but with calmness they were able to overcome his fears.
He was adopted out but returned to us, as he became too much to handle for the couple who fell in love with him. He needs to be with a family/couple that has true pack leadership experience, or you will find Joey ruling the home. Joey figured things out that he could control his newly adoptive family, and he did. As much as they loved him and were broken-hearted they returned him to us, he truly tests the waters, and he knows when he has gone over the limit. Joey is not for a first time dog owner, he needs a seasoned savvy dog person.
Joey need that discipline he never got from his original home in Hollister. He can be handled, but with rules and set boundaries. He needs a home with NO SMALL CHILDREN, only OLDER children who can understand the guidelines set for Joey. He needs true guidance and confidence building and attending obedience classes will truly help.
Joey is a dog WHO WILL NEED 2-3 VISITS with anyone who is interested in adopting him, so he can warm up to them, his recent visitors have all said he does not warm easily. All to sadly it is not the fault of the dog, but the humans who had him in his early years. We live in a world of perfection, Joey is not perfect, but with patience, training and guidance Joey will gain the confidence and balance he needs.
JOEY'S GOOD POINTS
He is a very loving dog, completely housebroken, walks on the leash very well, not destructive in the home, he loves to play throw catch and retrieve. He is very well behaved at the groomers, loves to ride in a car, and adores sleeping with his human family. He does well with other dogs who are calm in their manners, but needs caution when meeting new dogs for the first time. He has been neutered, had all his vaccines, teeth cleaned and one extracted, and heartworm tested.
Joey is presently back at The Dog House Inn, GILROY, California where once again his socialization and obedience skills are being worked on daily. If you feel you can give Joey a home and be assertive and consistent in his training, please give us a call.
