Ziva is a sweet, soft-hearted Shepherd mix who was abandoned. Usually we try to focus on the future and the amazing qualities a dog has (and Ziva has plenty!) but with Ziva, being abandoned the way she did has affected her so greatly. Her owners left her in their house when they moved. Just left her. It broke Ziva’s heart and it shows. She refused to eat for the first few days. She refused to interact, to play, to do anything but watch and wait for the people she loved to come back…and they didn’t. She is a loyal dog and she bonds hard and fast. She desperately wants someone to love and stability in her life. She is constantly looking over her shoulder to make sure her “person” is still there and that she isn’t being abandoned yet again. Ziva is tolerant of other dogs but prefers to be your one and only or with another dog who will respect her space. She is housetrained, cratetrained, minds her house manners like a dream, and knows a few basic commands. She is extremely smart and willing to learn anything and everything you would ever want to teach her. She is active and loves to play fetch and loves her runs/walks. Because of being abandoned, Ziva has generalized anxiety. What that means is any type of change or new thing, even a small change in her routine or expectation, makes her a ball of nerves and fear. She is on a low dose of Prozac right now and does VERY well so needs a home willing to continue that as well as providing her the training and predictability she needs. Ziva needs a person/family with a very stable, predictable home who will show her love and stability without encouraging her anxiety. She thrives on knowing what is expected of her, she loves having rules and boundaries in place and needs a home who is willing and able to balance that with giving her the love and attention she needs. In the right home, we are confident she will settle in nicely and the fear of being abandoned yet again will dissipate but she needs a home willing to solidly commit to sticking with her through the transition and through her adjustment.
