My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

POPSICLE is a 3 year old neutered black male Lab who weighs 40 pounds. He is friendly and likes to be petted. He explores everything around him as a lot of it is new to him. He hasn't been around many toys nor had anyone play with him much but is willing to learn. One thing he picked up fast was that inside was better than being out in cold. Good with other dogs, played with several at the kennel. . Knows sit, come down. Good on lead settles down after a few minutes. May be house trained as he waits to do his business until he is outside.
How Popsicle got to be Popsicle--He was a stray to the shelter after an exciting adventure. One day a couple of weeks ago he was pulled from the Pamlico River after he wandering out from shore and fell thorough the ice. A couple of good Samaritans saw him trying to get back up on the ice, they got a boat in the water and managed to pick up him up. By the time they got him back to shore he was ice cold and shivering. They wrapped him in some blankets, then took him to a vet to get warmed up and checked out, when the vet asked what his name was they said Popsicle. He was turned in to the shelter but no one came to find him. The rescue coordinator told us about him and asked if we could find him a new home. Popsicle is approved for kids ages 10+.

Update (4/27): Popsicle cannot understand why he still doesn't have his forever home! He is the perfect pocket size lab, and what he lacks in size he makes up for in personality! He loves toys and is really just the cutest thing!

Update (4/4): Popsicle has been with his fosters now for 2 weeks and is doing great! He is completely house trained! He goes to door when he has to go out. He has done wonderfully in the crate. He will go in with a treat and be ok for the entire work day, no accidents nor barking . He must have been crate trained in his previous life. There is no food aggression and he takes treats very nicely. He loves his humans and fellow canines. When he first came to his foster he didn’t play with toys but that has changed. His favorite is a rope toy and he does like his stuffed mouse. Popsicle gets along well with resident dog. When resident dog doesn’t want to play , popsicle knows to back off. He knows sit, down, stay and come. Popsicle doesn’t get into anything which is not his. He is very well behaved.
Popsicle loves to go on his walk and does well on the leash. He is only 40 pounds so it easy to walk him. He has adjusted to city living and does fine. He is very adaptable and could live anywhere. Popsicle will make a great addition to any family.

Update (3/27): Popsicle is adjusting nicely. He is house trained and has done well the few days he has been in the crate. He loves to be around his foster family, especially in the evening. He looks forward to his walks during the day. He loves the fresh air. Popsicle does prefer the sun to the rain, but don’t we all lately. He does pull on the leash so I think he would do well with an easy walker, even though he isn’t a big dog. He loves to go in the car but he recently asked for a doggie seatbelt so he could have help remaining seated for his trips around town. Popsicle is not a barker. He has only barked a few times when the resident dog barked. He does have puppy energy even though he is 3. He knows sit, stay (briefly), and come. He doesn’t fetch yet or play with many toys but we are working on that. He told me he never really had any toys of his own before so we are planning a trip to the toy store so he can pick out some .
