My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our Amazing Maisie is one Diva who is darn glad to see the snow melt into signs if spring. The change of seasons brings new freedom, as it means that she has become an empty nester, and is ready to embark on that carefree Divalicious lifestyle that should have always been hers to enjoy. Sadly, Maisie's youth was spent in service as a breeding bitch, in a haphazard rural breeding outfit that demonstrated more chutzpah than brains. Little Maisie is just two years old.

We became involved in the rescue of five Min Pins, part of a 12 pack that were passed off as strays by dubious owners, probably to avoid paying owner surrender fees to the Humane Society. The younger pups were placed quickly through the shelter adoption program, but three adults and two older pups were sent to us for evaluation and training.

Once we began our work with our new fosters, we were moved by Maisie's fearful perspective on the world around her. She was afraid of absolutely everything and became shut down. It took her a week to decompress; then, as we began our vet work, Maisie tested positive for Lyme disease. We immediately began treatment and had to delay her spay appointment. Within days of starting her treatment, we begin to suspect that Maisie was pregnant.

At first, we hoped for a false pregnancy, but, she was not far enough along for us to determine with certainty. Without an approximate conception date, we were waiting on pins and needles. As we waited, the "Rescue Schitzophrenia" kicked in, because of course we do not want to be responsible for bringing more dogs into the world, but on the other hand, OMG, we might be having puppies!!!!!!!!

Finally we couldn't stand the suspense any longer: our vet x-rayed Maisie, and reported two buns in the oven. So, now we knew, and all we could do was wait. As the time got closer, we sat vigil, waiting breathlessly for the pups to emerge. Nothing, and nothing, and nothing. The watched pot maddeningly never boils. Then, the minute we took a night off for dinner out, BOOM, there they were. When we came home, there was Maisie cleaning her pups, gnoshing on the afterbirth, and doing everything that a good mother should do. Maisie is a testament to estrogen.

And so now that the pups have been weaned, and Maisie is about to be spayed, we want to find folks for her, who have that special gift of unconditional love to share with a rescue dog. Maisie is one of the sweetest girls we've ever had in our rescue. She oozes love, and craves human touch. She can be a bit of a Velcro dog, truly loves the lap, and needs to be with her people.

Maisie could join just about any kind of household, but we want to find one in which her place will be prominent as a key family member. She has not seen too much of the world, and needs a strong pack leader to pick up the end of the leash and take her on the ride of her life. The busy life of a young mother has not left much time for Maisie to focus on social manners and obedience work, but she's smart and eager to please, and will blossom beautifully in her new home.

Maisie has an extremely gentle nature, but is a bit timid with strangers. Once she trusts, she bonds wholeheartedly. She's great with other dogs and cats, and has an athletic streak that will wow agility crowds, should her adopters have that inclination. Maisie can jump flat footed six feet, with almost cat-like grace.

Maisy is in good health and has been spayed and treated for Lyme. She has been vaccinated for rabies and DA2PP (distemper, adrenovirus, parvo and parainfluenza). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed.
