My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey there! My name is Shane. I am an 1-year-old neutered male Boxer mix. I am 41 pounds of pure excitement and joy! I love meeting new people, and I get along great with other dogs, too. I'm super sweet, playful, and obviously adorable! My photos don't do me justice.

Want to hear a crazy story? Not too long ago, I was picked up by animal control and brought to a local high-kill shelter. When I got there, it was immediately apparent that I was injured. I wasn't putting any weight on my front right leg, and it was swollen and very painful. When the shelter staff took x-rays, they found multiple fractures and noticed that my bone was displaced. Despite this, the shelter felt that it may heal without surgery. They thought that a splint alone would stabilize my leg enough for it heal on its own. Things were looking up for me until 2 weeks later when I chewed off and actually ate part of my splint. Can you believe that?! The staff decided it would be best not to splint my leg, and they discovered that my leg was bent and had an abnormal curvature.

Thankfully, it wasn't too long before CageFree heard about me and decided to take me into their rescue. They immediately sent me to see their orthopedic surgeon, and it was determined that I definitely needed surgery. The very next day, I went under the knife. Everything went well, but while the doctors were stitching me up, I went into cardiac arrest. My heart actually stopped for 10 minutes! I was technically dead, but I love life way too much to give up. Luckily, the surgical team was able to resuscitate me. Obviously, I was in pretty rough shape. Who wouldn't be, after that? I was then hospitalized for a couple of days. I was barely conscious, but I was breathing on my own. The staff at the vet informed my friends at CageFree that I might have long-term neurological deficits. Little did they know, I'm a fighter! Just 3 days after I was at death's door, I was running around and playing like any normal puppy. I was a little unsteady on my feet, but to meet me now, you'd never know anything even happened to me. It appears as though I've made a miraculous recovery!

After such a scary ordeal, you'd think that I would be fearful and timid. But it's just the opposite! I'm extremely friendly and outgoing, with a positive outlook on life. I can't wait to find my new forever home, and shower my family with love and kisses! Do you think I could be the sweet and lovable dog you've always dreamed of adopting? If so, please don't hesitate to contact CageFree and schedule a time to meet me!
