My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UMDR ID#015-0323 - Midnight's Rescue was Sponsored by Jessica Kuik of Hannon.

Midnight is a very well behaved little dog but still needs a few finishing touches to his training. I believe with a confident and consistent leader he would actually excel as a companion. As he is he is a darling little dog and a wonderful little companion. He is approximately 1 /2 - 2 years old and currently weighs 14 lbs.

Here is what his foster family had to say:

Midnight is such a good boy. I’ve never seen another dog so well behaved. He’ll lay down and sleep next to you all day as you work, and falls asleep so hard. But when suppertime he turns into a kangaroo! He loves to be around people and loves to cuddle. He doesn’t like laying down on the floor alone. He likes to be right up on the couch or on the bed with his head on your lap. So he would definitely fit best with an owner who loves to cuddle. He has lots of pep and likes to go for walks, but isn’t overly active and requires a normal amount of exercise. He seems like he has an old soul, but he has a few puppy-like habits, like using his teeth when playing (he never bites hard, but he does still use his teeth when excited).

I would described Midnight’s energy level as moderate-low most times of the day. But when he knows it’s time for his supper he loses his mind. He can’t contain himself and leaps and runs like a kangaroo. He also gets very excited when we come home from work. On the leash he walks at a good pace, but doesn’t seem overly interested in jogging, so we just walk around the block with him 4-5 times a day and take him on longer walks on the weekends.

Midnight has been very social and friendly with everyone he’s met. However, he hasn’t been exposed to any children however I think with his calm nature he would be fine with children that were old enough to enjoy playing with him. He doesn't seem to be shy of people at all and is outgoing and inquisitive. Midnight gets along well with other dogs in the home (he met my boyfriend’s parent’s dog). He barks a lot when playing, but plays nice. When meeting dogs on a walk he’ll give the dog a sniff, but doesn’t bark.

We put Midnight in his crate before we leave the house. He usually barks and cries as we leave, but he calms down fairly quickly and chews on his bone or sleeps. Upon returning home he’s usually asleep. I would say Midnight has a mild fear of passing cars. When a huge GO bus passed by us one day he hid behind me. He’s a little hesitant when it comes to trying new things and seems to look for approval, but he doesn’t seem excessively scared. He loves food. When I go to get him his food he almost does flips in the air and inhales it. Besides that, his second favourite pastime is cuddling. He loves to sleep and cuddle as I work or watch TV. He also really enjoys chewing on his bone. (He doesn’t play catch or tug-o-war. When excited he wants to play, but I haven’t figured out exactly how to play with him yet, besides scratching him, because when you try to wrestle he likes to use his teeth.)

He’s very quiet in the home. We put him in his crate before we go to bed, and he may cry for a minute or two, but then goes to sleep. He sometimes wakes up in the middle of the night and starts to cry, but after telling him to be good and to go back to bed he listens. Also, like I mentioned above, he’ll bark when we put him in his crate when we leave the house, but I think he calms down soon after. Midnight’s very well-behaved. He has tried to test boundaries (i.e. tried to steal food off the coffee table), but when we tell him “No” he immediately stops. Anytime he’s doing something he’s not supposed to, as soon as I tell him to “stop” or call his name he comes to me. I would imagine that in his forever home he would not need to be crated once he knows the boundaries. I think he would love to sleep with you and would probably sleep through the night. We’ve been teaching him how to sit. Before getting a treat he’ll sit, but then when I say “good boy” and go to give him the treat he snaps for it. He hasn’t learned how to take it nicely yet. He doesn’t know any other tricks yet.

Midnight’s fully house trained. He hasn’t had a single accident in the house. And he’s good to do his business outside in a timely manner. Midnight goes in his crate at nighttime and usually goes right to sleep but one night we forgot to put him in the crate, and he was good and slept with us all night. He’s usually left in the crate in the daytime for 4-5 hours a day. Although some days I’m home all day and he doesn’t go in at all, and one or two days a week he’s in there for about 8 hours. Midnight walks well on a leash. He doesn’t walk right beside me (he walks in front of me), but I don’t mind. He doesn’t really tug. He is very good about waiting for you to go out and he is great in the car. He just lies down in the backseat.

Midnight is such a good boy. He’s a great snuggler and loves to sleep next to you all day. He’s mild natured, but has lot of spunk when he goes outside for walks and at dinnertime. He’s extremely well-behaved and does well both inside and outside of his crate. He has been a joy to have around. Midnight could easily do well in a lot of different home situations. His mild-nature and small size means he could strive in a city apartment or a larger home. Midnight just needs an owner who has time to love and cuddle him. Midnight is an absolute prince, and any family/owner would be lucky to have him.
