My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

IRENE is a 7 year old spayed yellow female Lab who weighs 78 pounds. Irene came to the shelter and then to Lab Rescue after being released from a hoarding case. She is shy to new environments, but is sweet and likes people and other dogs. Irene MUST be placed with another dog or two to help build and sustain her confidence. Irene is ready to be adopted to the right home, which for her is one with patience and a more quiet household than not. From LR foster: She LOVES my pack and is always with a dog, whether she is sleeping or out in the yard. She loves to be on the sofa and will sleep on a human bed if permitted. She had some minor issues getting up on either one, but mostly OK. She goes up and down my stairs all the time, no problem. She is fine with the cat. Tail wagging today; still very shy when meeting any newcomers, hangs back with her tail tucked, but each day brings great improvement. We have been walking her on a halter and lead, but I think she would do great in a fenced-in yard, playing with her buddies. She is particular about eating out of her bowl on the floor – seemed to want it a bit elevated. She is approved for kids ages 10+.

Update (4/27): Irene continues to blossom in her foster home. She loves having other dogs around and continues to be fine with the resident cat. She would prefer a family that is willing to share their bed with her and an extra dog bed for napping would be great. Irene is such a pretty girl and will reward her new family with lots of love and tail wags!

Update (4/13): It’s been three great weeks with Irene. She is becoming a mostly full fledged Lab! Animated, playing, taking treats, eating fine. She is still being leashed in the back yard...as once she becomes frightened...she flattens. She must go with another dog when adopted. If she elects not to go outside or upstairs with the resident pups, she then whines to be close. She is totally house trained. Loves the dog beds, loves her fosters bed, she goes up stairs and does not seem to mind thunder or planes or helicopters. With a loud dog bark across the way, she will cower. Yet, that typical lab strength and personality perseveres. She's a very sweet and loving lab.

Update (4/4) - It’s been two weeks today since Irene came to stay with us. What progress she makes every day! She whines now if the other pups go outside without her. :) She eats every meal now and took a treat for the first time yesterday from my hand. Her tail wags at us when we come home. She play-bows to my labs and she runs happily around the yard. Great with cats, sleeps on our beds if allowed, no issues going up or down stairs. She is still scared of doors/windows/noises. But she is a wonderful girl and will make a perfect lab pet.

Update (4/3): Irene's tail is wagging more, she never misses a meal, sleeps on sofas and the dog beds.
She is still shy around doors and jumps at loud noises, cautious around new things. Waits for you to set down a treat rather than taking it from your hand. Every day she is sweet, loving, submissive, always close by us.

Update (3/29) Irene is doing GREAT! She's eating all her food every meal, sleeping on sofas, playing with the resident labs. She seems to gravitate towards the labs. She loves running in the family room with them—so cute. She still won’t take treats and eats by herself. We love her.
