My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SWEET SWEET ANGEL: 10 Year Old Yellow Lab / Shepherd Mix Spayed Female 95 Pounds
(Foster mom is working on getting some weight off with less food and more exercise.)

Angel came to GGLRR as her owners lost their home and had to move. We asked a professional trainer to evaluate Angel, to meet her and see if she would be a good dog for our program. Angel passed all the tests with flying colors! Some information from the owner: They would walk her with the neighbor’s shepherd but it seems other than this activity not much was put into Angel. She was an outside dog and came to GGLRR filthy and in a much shut down state.

She is now in a foster home and is thriving. This is what the foster mom has to say about her:

Angel is 10 years old and the sweetest most perfect dog ever. She is a very young 10 year old – she does not act her age. She has the cutest happy dance when I get home from work! She looks and acts like a lab but GGLRR was told she is part shepherd. The foster mom thinks Angel has had a heavy hand in the past as if you raise your hand or if you raise your voice she will cower and run immediately to her dog bed. She walks perfectly on leash – loves to go for walks! The foster mom lives on several acres and Angel will walk along off leash and will always look back to make sure her foster mom is right there. She loves to play ball. You throw the ball for her and she will bring it back each time. She loves to be petted and brushed. She now will come into the foster home with no issues. She comes in grabs a stuffed toy from the toy box and will go lay down on her bed. She is also very content laying down outside on her dog bed. I have had her outside on our 20 acres and she stays close by. She will wander a bit at times to seek new adventures but when I call her she comes right back. She has no food issues with people or my two other labs. She loves kids and will play with my 5 year old grandson. She is fine with my two other dogs but it took her a little while to warm up to them and be secure with them in our home. The only negative the foster has about Angel is she does not like car rides. She is working with her on this to make her more secure in the car. She is a very easy dog to have in my home – happy to get out for regular walks or happy to hang out at home with her head in my lap. We are not sure how Angel would be with cats.

Angel is located in Escalon.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
