My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Marvelous Mandy is a very sweet, Labrador/Heeler mix. She’s just 4 years young, weighs 45 pounds, spayed, and has her rabies and distemper-parvo vaccinations. Mandy is the perfect size pooch, and enjoys outdoor walks and exploring. Mandy is a smart girl, has great manners and would love a home with a moderately active life-style. Indoors, she is quiet as a mouse. She gets along with most dogs and would love a doggie friend (comparable to her size) to play with, no kitties please.

Here are just a few of Mandy’s amazing assets:

• Calm and well-mannered in the house
• Crate trained & house-trained
• Knows the sit command and how to shake hands
• In excellent health and physical shape
• Quiet & calm indoors and the perfect watchdog outdoors (will bark if someone tries to come into the yard)
• Rides well in the car – so take her with you
• Watches TV with you
• Helps you on the computer
• A sweetie pie
• Beautiful sleek, soft coat
• Loves to go on walks, great on a leash
• Up-to-date on shots
• Spayed

Mandy can be shy when she first meets you or does some new activity for the first time. A home where she is given space to be herself (and given time to come to you ... as opposed to you going to her) is perfect. With some patience, soon Mandy’s bubbly self will quickly shine forth. She would prefer an all adult, quiet home environment. She can be a bit fearful with some men and not so much others.

Just recently we discovered a “hidden talent” of Mandy’s. I’d picked up one of my other foster doggie’s food bowls (after the dog had eaten about ½ the food and walked off) and put it on top of her crate. I was outside watching the three dogs play when Mandy disappeared back into the house. A minute later, here she comes. She’d somehow gotten the bowl off the top of the crate and carried the bowl...with all the food...upright, without spilling a drop, and brought it to me on the patio. It was if she was saying, “Hey, someone left their food and I thought you might want to put the bowl away before anyone else eats it!” What a riot!

This sweetie was rescued from a small community animal shelter with a HIGH KILL rate, then taken to a foster home in the area. Later, the woman who was fostering her, had to have open-heart surgery and could no longer care for Mandy. When we heard she could go back to the high kill shelter, we rescued her ourselves. Now she’s ready for her furever home. Mandy would love to be your best buddy! She’s an absolute pleasure to have around.
