My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

FOSTERED IN RALEIGH NC:\r\n\r\nMiss Sally is a wonderful girl with a superb temperament. She's a sweet, friendly, laid back gal that LOVES everyone she meets (especially kids!). And she loves to give kisses...lots of kisses! She would make a great pet for a family that is easy going, loves to hang around and spoil their dog. She is super squishy, loves to snuggle and will take loving from anyone willing to give it. She is appropriately submissive and gentle with people, it doesn't take more than a verbal correction to get her attention. She is always a happy, wiggle monster and too cute not to squeeze! Sally is a beautiful, Fawn/Blue Brindle with White, Classic American Bully. She has the stocky, low-rider build, around 19 tall and about 60lbs. She is a nice adult, around 4-5 years old and is already spayed, vaccinated and on flea/tick/heartworm prevention.\r\n\r\nUnfortunately, Sally is heartworm positive and we have chosen to do the slow/soft kill method for her treatment. She has finished her 4 weeks of antibiotic therapy and has started treatment as of March 2015. She will need biweekly (twice a month) heartworm prevention - Heartgard, Heartgard Plus, Iverhart Max, Iverhart Plus or Tri-Heart Plus are all suitable prevention's for her treatment. We will be sending off 6 months worth of Heartgard Plus for her treatment to continue. The slow kill method will usually take about 1-2 year or possibly longer (depending on how heavy the infection is) for negative results. Sally is doing wonderfully so far - no reactions to the medication and we think she will heal well with this method.\r\n\r\nSally is an easy keeper and overall a simple girl. She may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but she makes it up with how eager she is to please and love her people. She is crate trained and housebroken. She will need a sturdy wire crate, larger is better so she can sprawl out. She would do best if crated indoors when left alone, she sometimes gets a bit curious and may get into things she's not suppose to (like the trash!), and she may decorate the house with items but she is not too destructive. She likes a few types of bones, she doesn't seem to have a particular favorite, but she loves kongs stuffed with treats and peanut butter! She likes soft toys and squishy balls, she will play a little fetch, but she mostly likes to carry them around. Doesn't take much to tire her out!\r\n\r\nThis silly girl is extremely food driven, in fact she becomes snorty mcnuts wigglepants when its meal time. She seems to lose her mind with the anticipation of food and could easily be named Miss Piggy. She does a full out body dance, but she's learning to sit and try to focus for a few seconds before being allowed to eat. She has not shown any food aggression towards people or other dogs, but it may be best that she's fed separately from other animals. She eats quickly and has no problem bumping another dog out of the way to steal their food and this could cause altercations. She does not appreciate cats near her food bowl.\r\n\r\nShe has a lower energy level and likes a casual walk around the block, she walks good on leash and rarely pulls. She is not very heat tolerant and will need to limit long walks during summer time. She has the Bulldog heavy, snorty breathing and needs to have limited heat exposure and she also will snore while sleeping. She loves car rides and has spent several hours traveling with her foster mom, she usually will look out the window the first few minutes and then snooze for the rest of the ride. She is great in public and likes meeting new people, but would prefer to spend most of her time being spoiled at home. She's pretty much a couch potato, shaped like a baby hippo :) She is a velcro dog, stays close to her person and is always craving for approval and affection.\r\n\r\nSally is currently being fostered in a home with several dogs, cats and birds. When she first came into foster care, she would avoid all the other animals, she was 100% focused on her person. She didn't seem too bothered that the others were around, but she was initially uncomfortable when they would be in her direct space. After weeks of slow and positive introductions, she has been much more accepting of them and will even run around and play a little. She has barked at and pushed cats out of her space or she would give clear cues that she felt uncomfortable. She doesn't have a strong drive to chase them if they run, but she still feels a bit wary when these alien creatures are getting too close and she may do better in home without cats. If a potential home comes along and has a dog-friendly cat, we may consider moving forward with an adoption. Ideally, she would do best in a home as a single pet or with a compatible neutered male dog.\r\n\r\nBefore coming to Annabelle's Second Chance: Sally was another sweet momma dog, picked up as a pregnant stray by Animal Control. We rescued her from a rural, high-kill shelter - Montgomery County Animal Shelter in Troy, NC. Sadly, this shelter has a 95% euthanasia rate, so not many dogs make it out of there. Her time was past due and no one stepped up for her, but we couldn't resist that sweet face! After her vet exam, we discovered that she wasn't far along in term and with her being positive for heartworms, we decided the best choice was to spay her and begin treatment, since that is a more serious health condition. If you think you are a good match for sweet Sally please fill out application below.\r\n\r\nto apply:CLICK HERE or paste this url in your browser http://fs7.formsite.com/ascpbr/form1/index.html \r\n\r\nPlease keep in mind that we are a foster based rescue only. There is no facility where these dogs can be visited prior to application approval as they are all in private homes. This is for both the safety of our foster homes and our dogs. Please take a minute to fill out the adoption application if you are interested in one of our dogs. We also do not place our pit bulls in homes with dogs of the same gender. We adopt as single dogs or to homes with dogs of the opposite gender only. We appreciate breed experience.
