Hi I'm Nancy. In the winter of 2008, I was abandoned at a farm east of Denver with other cats, llamas and animals. Thankfully, a nearby rescue called Peaceful Prairie Sanctuary rescued me. While this may sound like a nice place, it turns out this sanctuary is for pigs, chickens and other farm animals who were rescued from a trip to your dinner plate. Since I am not a farm animal, they brought me to MaxFund to find a home.

MaxFund has been fine, and the people have treated me well and given me food every day (Don’t get me wrong, under the right circumstances I LOVE chicken!). But I would much rather have a Peaceful Sanctuary at your house.

I am still getting used to living at MaxFund, and I may appear rather reserved. But after the MaxFund folks transferred me out of the cage where I had been living, I started to warm up to people and let them pet me. Some of us hate being in a cage, and who can blame us?

Won’t you give me a chance and take me home today? I am a beautiful girl who has had a bad start to life. I hope you will give me a second chance for love and a nice, warm home. I'm waiting for you.

About MaxFund No-Kill Animal Shelter

About Our Shelter...

The MaxFund is a non-profit organization that was established in May of 1988 to provide medical care for injured pets with no known owners, and to seek out new homes for these animals once they have recovered. The MaxFund is a no-kill dog and cat shelter. MaxFund assists hundreds of people and animals each year by trying to make the correct match between owner and pet. MaxFund adopts our animals to Colorado residents only.

The MaxFund is a TRUE no-kill shelter. There is no pre-sorting of animals into "adoptable" and "non-adoptable" categories, discarding the so-called "unadoptable." The MaxFund takes every animal it has the space for. EVERY animal is kept until its owner is found or it is placed in a new adoptive home.

Our Adoption Process...

Adoption fees:

Cats: $25
Kittens (under 12 months): $75
Dogs: $125
Puppies (under 6 months) $200
Dogs over 8 years: $75

All applicants will be asked to submit the names and phone numbers of 3 personal references (relatives don't count), the name and phone number of your veterinarian if you have one, the name and phone number of your landlord (if applicable) and information about your current living situation. We also require that all immediate family members meet the animal prior to adoption to ensure compatibility. We would hate to adopt an animal into a family and later find out the dog doesn't like the kids or the husband doesn't like the animal, etc. You can print out an application on our website at maxfund.org.

If you are interested in adopting a dog and have filled out an application, MaxFund will ask you to bring any currently owned dogs to the shelter for a “meet-and-greet” to ensure they can stand each other before they become a family. Because we examine adoption applications carefully and contact all references, same-day adoptions are extremely rare and should not be expected!
