My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Age: 8 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 58 lbs
Variety: Field

Meet our goofy and sassy Cicely! This girl came to ESRA when her elderly owners were no longer able to care for her. Though she had been well cared for medically, Cicely did have an old ACL injury that was causing her pain and therefore needed fixing. A patient foster family took Cicely through the ACL surgery, and although she has a few weeks of recovery time left, her leg is healing very well.

Cicely is a classic Velcro Springer who loves to be near her humans and to be petted. Her foster home has two other dogs, and Cicely tolerates them but doesn't engage in play with them. She does not, however, tolerate cats.

Cicely can be protective of food and toys. For this reason, we want to place her in an all-adult home. Her ideal home would have women only, as she does prefer women to men. Cicely needs her family to go at her pace when they are introducing her to new experiences. She may growl if she is pushed to do something that she does not want to do, but she then gives a contrite look as if to say that she didn't mean to be grouchy. All Cicely will need to thrive is a confident leader who can give her boundaries, patience, and love.

A well-mannered girl, Cicely waits to be invited onto the furniture. She knows the commands Sit and Down. Her foster mom is working on teaching her Left, Right, Stop, and Walk Out, and Cicely enjoys learning and performing for her humans. When she first arrived at her foster home, she would rush to the door. Now, however, she will wait patiently until she is let outside.

Cicely does well off leash outside in the yard and during walks in the woods with her foster family. They are working with her on leash manners, and she is learning to resist pulling on the leash. Cicely loves the water and has wonderful energy, especially on walks. As her leg gets stronger, she will make a great walking partner and companion for a lucky family.

Please note that an approved adoption application is the first step in a more thorough interview process that is designed to match each dog to exactly the right family, and that the final decision rests with the dog's case manager.
Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Cicely.
