My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Just to have that sense of family, it gives you something that you know you need to take care of for the rest of your life. People gave it to him, and he passed it on to us. - Benny Green (pianist/jazz musician)
Benny came into rescue a truly happy boy, he's an optimistic kind of guy and just loves living life. Benny has likely never had a family of his own and has enjoyed every second of being in the company of his foster mom and siblings. Like so many others his time was up, but he will never know how close he came. He now only knows the security of a warm house, a soft bed, good food, fun toys, a big back yard, and the acceptance of people and play mates. Benny is around a year old possibly a little younger as he plays like a puppy. He is a very handsome 45 lb tan black mouth cur mix with just a dash of what looks to be bone mouth shar pei. His temperament is very much cur (foster mom loves curs). He is laid back when not playing with his foster siblings. He definitely is a bit clownish in his antics. He has a goofy way of rolling on his back and wiggling around. He loves to engage all in play, foster mom included. He is both spunky and affectionate and often uses his mouth for play, nibbling on an open hand (gently of course). He will snuggle on the couch when the opportunity arises (meaning when there is room for one more dog). He gears his play according to the playmate, rougher with the bigger older siblings and less so with his smaller puppy sibling. Benny is crate trained although somewhat vocal initially until he settles down, a little kibble always helps. He does have free run of the house when foster mom is at work and has proved to be non destructive. He is potty trained by way of a doggy door but foster mom is still working on the occasional leg hike (there are 8 boys in residence so it happens). Happily he now is less inclined to do so and is learning that this is not proper house etiquette. Benny has had to learn many things in a short period of time and he is progressing much quicker than his foster mom expected. He will no doubt be a complete proper boy in no time at all. He is currently learning basic commands and responds well to correction (with a sad hurt expression on his face). He wants nothing more than love and acceptance and works very hard to please. Benny does well on leash and is well behaved on car rides so he makes a great walking and driving companion. He loves everyone and everything including cats (okay so he barks at squirrels, it's a dog thing). Benny is already neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, and current on all preventatives. This sweet funny affectionate boy wants nothing more than a person or family who will give him the loving forever home he should have been born into. It's never too late for a pooch like benny. He has now learned the sense of family and what a wonderful thing it is. Will you be the one(s) to pass it on to him for the rest of his life?
