Cooper, a 42lb Beagle/Lab mix, is approximately two years old. He was found in Detroit as a puppy with an embedded collar. He was rescued and had the collar surgically removed; then was placed at a boarding facility for foster until his current foster parents took him into their home. Cooper has a diagnosis from an animal behaviorist of anxiety disorder. That diagnosis also found that he did not get proper and positive socialization when he was a puppy, which has led to his current state. His foster parents are using a three prong approach to help manage his anxiety and improve his reactions to new things. Cooper is on multiple times a day medication and requires limited exposure to new things in an attempt to reduce his anxiety. Additionally, behavior modification training is being used in an attempt for him to relearn how to react to daily experiences.

Cooper needs a special forever home, one that is dedicated to his well being and managing his anxiety. He will take time to warm up and trust a new family, but once he does, he is as sweet as can be. Cooper is a fun and cuddly dog, one that will do best in a low activity home with other dog friendly dog(s). He can be with cats; however he does react to them at times. He is not good with small children, but may do okay with older kids if introduced properly. New people and introductions make him very anxious and they must be done slowly and properly.

Cooper is such a wonderful dog, that his foster parents will not give up on him finding his forever home. Their home is a bit too chaotic with three cats and two other dogs, and the hope is someone experienced in dog behavior and training will want to welcome him into their home.
