Murissa is a princess!

Name:            Murissa
Gender:          Female
DOB:            August 2013
Description:    Brown Tabby Medium-Haired

MURISSA is a friendly little diva! This petite girl loves to greet you at the door and rub up against your legs as she chirps to greet you. Murissa is also very playful and especially likes playing with the Cat's Meow and strings.

Being the diva that she is, Murissa likes hanging out with her foster mom and being petted behind her ears and on her neck. However, she does not like full body rubs and nips at your hand if you do this. Some cats are just a little too sensitive to being touched in certain places and Murissa is one of these kitties.

Murissa likes to sleep on her foster mom's bed at night but typically gets up in the middle of the night to wander around and find a new place to sleep. She has really come out of her shell in our care and we think Murissa will continue to become friendlier and probably more comfortable with being handled once she gets more comfortable in her new surroundings.

Murissa came into our care with a litter of kittens from a local shelter.

About SPCA of Northern Virginia

About Our Rescue Group...

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Northern Virginia is a non-profit, all-volunteer, private organization established by local concerned citizens to rescue domestic animals from cruelty, neglect, and abandonment. We receive all our funding from membership dues, donations, and fundraising events. We are always striving to enlarge our animal rescue operations and expand our services to the community. Our voluntary Board of Directors, committee members, and volunteers are responsible for all SPCA activities. We do not have a shelter facility, and depend on foster parents to care for domestic animals until adoption.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our dogs are available to meet at twice monthly adoption events in Fairfax, VA.

Our cats are available to meet you in their foster homes
by appointment weeknights or weekends.

Our Adoption Process...

Please read our cat adoption guidelines (at We put a lot of financial and emotional support into our cats and want them placed in homes where they will be members of the family for the rest of their lives. Indoor cats, with care, can live up to 20 years. Not everyone agrees with all of our guidelines. Please read our explanations and talk to our volunteers. If you disagree with us, we suggest you adopt a cat from a different source such as a local shelter. When you adopt a cat from us, you must sign a legal contract stating that you will comply with our guidelines. The adoption fee is $150 for one cat and $250 for two.

For those interested in cat adoptions, all potential adopters must read our adoption guidelines (available on our website at, then meet the cat in person either at an Adoption Fair or in their foster home. We take applications only after you've met the cat and we both feel it's a good match.

All adopters interested in adopting a dog must meet the dog in person, and submit an application. A housecheck is done, and references are checked. If approved, the dog will be placed in the home for a two-week trial period, to make sure that it is a good "fit" for both people and dog. If it is, the adoption is finalized and the adoption fee is paid. We do not adopt outside of the Washington DC metro area.
