My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET BAXTER

Cute little Baby Baxter is a 16 week old black and tan smooth male Dachshund puppy who has just come to ODR, Inc. He weighs 5.2 lbs, just slightly under weight for his age. We don't know a lot about him yet, because he is brand new, but he gets along with his foster Mom's dogs who are both male and female. His original home had children and a cat and Baxter had no issues with them. Through no fault of his own, Baxter finds himself needing a new home...the family that bought him has other dogs and children and are finding that puppy training with sweet baby Baxter has tipped the scales as far as their time goes.

BAXTER will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds. Because Baxter is so young, he is too young to be neutered yet. His new family will also need to sign an agreement to have him neutered by the age of six months. He is current on his first round of puppy shots, but the next round will be due at the beginning of May. He also needs puppy training, so his new family will also need to spend a bit of time helping him learn. His foster family is currently helping him learn to potty outside.

Like all Dachshunds, BAXTER is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, BAXTER needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.

OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give BAXTER a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
