My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This beautiful little girl was found cringing and crying in her cage at a south central Ohio shelter when MW BREW stepped in to rescue her. Initially frightened and confused, this sweet 27-lb Beagle girl underwent an amazing transformation in foster care. Today she stands tall and expresses joy like any well-adjusted family pet. She is the ultimate treasure, and is looking for someone to love her.

Despite her name, Gabby is a quiet girl who keeps her chatter at low volume. She barks--a beautiful bark!--only when there is a reason to, arrooos softly with pleasure, sighs with contentment, yips during play, mumbles at her toys, and yawns loudly at bedtime. She loves "cushy"--her snuggle bed, her soft blankets, her furry toys, and the cushioned chairs at the kitchen table. She is house-trained, crate-trained, does very well on a lead on her daily walks, rides well in the car, and knows sit, come, and stay.

Gabby is an incredibly affectionate dog--all sweetness and light, wanting nothing more than to be hugged, hugged, hugged all over, and cuddled in your arms. She will poke her nose under your arm and worm her way right into your heart. Reach down to pet her and she rolls on her back for tummy scratches and belly rubs. Sweet, trusting, and loving, Gabby looks to you for approval, and will do anything to please you. Yet she is not clingy, and can happily occupy herself, whether it's moving her toys (and bedding!) from room to room, snoozing in a patch of sunshine, or inspecting the yard.

Gabby's first introduction to the resident terrier in her foster home was a bit grumbly, so the two were initially separated, with gradual, supervised interactions. Today they are loose together in the house and yard, greet each other with tail wags, and have no issues. Gabby is not dog aggressive nor is she alpha, but she is unsocialized with other dogs and needs to learn "dog language." She would do well as the only dog, or with an easy-going, well socialized dog to show her the ropes, and an owner willing to ensure that all canine encounters are positive.

This is a dog with a tender heart and gentle soul, and she is looking for the same in her new family. She responds best to positive reinforcement, and only the very mildest correction is ever needed. Love and kindness will win the day for Gabby, and help her gain the self-confidence she needs. Gabby would likely do best in a calm household with someone there during the day to be with her. She is friendly with everyone, but would do best in a home with older children or adults only, as she needs a gentle touch rather than rough-and-tumble play. She would appreciate a securely fenced-in yard to accommodate her zoomies and expend her youthful energy.

If you are a kind and loving family and have extra love to give, look to Gabby. She will return that love a thousandfold.
