My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lady Godiva was a freedom rider,
she didn't care of the whole world looked.
Joan of Arc, with the lord to guide her,
she was a sister who really cooked.
Isadora was a first bra burner
Aint' ya glad she showed up?
And when the country was falling apart
Betsy Ross got it all sewed up
And then there's Maude
And then there's Maude
And then there's that uncompromisin' enterprisin' anything but tranquilizin' Right on Maude!!!
Do you remember that sitcom called Maude? That’s me! Sing along with me! Arooooo! Uncompromisin’? Well, I am a Beagle, after all. I am a senior girl who just might be the sweetest girl ever! I was pretty timid when I first got to my foster home, and my foster mom and dad still work with me every day to build my confidence and courage. I’m much better now, but I still follow my foster mommy everywhere she goes, because I like her and trust her so much! I still startle a bit at strange and unknown noises, but I have come a long way.
When I first got here I was coughing all the time and couldn’t breathe very well. A couple trips to the vet (he’s a silly man and says I have a booty like J-Lo!) determined a lot of fluid in my lungs and some heart problems. Some antibiotics, and twice daily heart medication, and I am getting better every day! I’m also working on dropping a few pounds. My foster parents replace part of my kibble with green beans! Can you imagine? But I like them alright, and good food and exercise will help make me healthier and happier for many more years! I love taking walks, and right now am doing short walks every day to build my strength and stamina back up. Foster mom says I need a harness, because I do like to pull, and get distracted by …….everything!!
I am mostly potty trained, although I had a few accidents when I was getting rid of all that fluid in my lungs. I really don’t like being crated, but I do perfectly fine outside of it. I would much rather be with my humans or my foster doggy brother and sister. I sleep on a dog bed in my foster parents’ bedroom. You can usually find me snoozing on the floor on a blanket I have fluffed up and rearranged to make the perfect nest. That extra weight and the damage to my heart and lung make it a bit hard to jump up on the couch, although right there by my family is where I love to be! It also makes it a little hard to climb stairs- so a single level home would be ideal!
I am a super happy girl; my tail is constantly wagging! I love my beagle foster sister and dachshund brother. My sister is the alpha, and I’m ok with that. I know when to leave her alone. I do like to play with my brother though! I don’t really play with toys, but on the other hand, haven’t chewed up anything I’m not supposed to! I don’t get into any trouble at all (well, except maybe hunting for things to eat in the back yard……I am a Beagle) I do know what the word NO! means! All in all, I’m just a sweetheart looking for my forever family. All I need is love! Right on Maude!
And then there’s Maude…….And then there’s Maude…..
