My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

1. What is your name?
My name is Bree!

2. How old are you?

I think I'm about three. I had lots of different medical records with varying ages from 2-6 but judging from my playful personality, they think I'm about three.

3. What do you look like?

I am a small pit bull, around 45 pounds. I have a pretty red coat with some white on my chest and cute, crooked nose. My ears are soft and floppy too!

4. What do you like to eat:
My foster mom has been feeding me the healthy kind of dog food for as long as I can remember, but the best days are when I get to snack on bully sticks and peanut butter-filled Kongs.

5. What kind of personality do you have:

I am a loving, gentle, and playful pit bull. I love to play in the backyard and hop around, and when I'm tired you can find me snuggled up on the couch. I am great around people of all ages, and I've never met a dog I didn't get along with!

6. Describe your perfect day

I have so much fun in the backyard playing with sticks and other toys I can chew on. I'm learning how to walk on a leash and I love getting to walk alongside my foster brother checking out all the neighborhood sights and smells. My perfect day would also include a frozen peanut butter Kong, lots of scratches behind my ears, and cuddles with my foster family.

7. What is your favorite toy?
Growing up, I didn't have a chance to play with any toys, but my foster moms are helping to teach me which things in the house are toys. I have caught on quickly, and get excited when I'm introduced to new toys. My favorite is probably a canvas squirrel that I like to chew on, my Kong, and ropes.

8. Do you know any tricks?
My main trick right now is learning how to sit. I didn't learn the basics when I was younger, but I'm an eager learner. I'm very motivated by treats, especially salmon and sweet potato treats!

9. What scares you?
A lot of things scared me when I moved into a house for the first time. My whole life, I was confined to life on a chain and had to get used to the new sounds of a house like the dishwasher, doorbell, and washing machine. My foster brother, Sully, is a confident dog and I'm learning to take his lead and stay calm when I hear weird noises. Bath time still isn't my favorite time, but my foster mom is helping me to feel more comfortable.

10. Do you like cats?
I haven't had much experience with cats, but I would be curious to learn more about them!

11. Do you have any doggie best friends?
My foster brother, Sully, is a red pit bull like me! We get along well with each other and he's teaching me all about home life and the comfiest places to snuggle. I have played with several other Even Chance dogs, and they all loved me and I loved them. Most of all, I love to be around puppies. I spent my whole life being bred and had several litters of puppies. I didn't have a long time with each litter so when I have the chance to be around other puppies, I wag my tail and roll around with joy. When it comes to being a mom, I'm an absolute natural!

12. If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?

It depends on my mood, but when I'm feeling energetic the backyard is my favorite place to be. I make my foster family laugh when I "bunny hop" around! When the days are over and I have spent my energy playing, the couch or bed are my favorite places to be. I enjoy the simple things in life.

13. How is your health?

Right now, my health is great but it has been a long road! When I was rescued from Tennessee, I was far from healthy. My skin was in bad condition, I had poor nutrition, I had a double ear infection, and I had several infections in my breasts from being bred so many times. Since then, I have been spayed, received all my shots, and had a partial mastectomy. I am so thankful for my foster families and Dr. Johnson for caring about my health!

15. Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion?
I share a home with two human best friends, Heather and Emily and a three year old EC alum named Sully. I like to be wherever they are. I love them all so much, and can't pick a favorite!

16. Where do you hang out when you are home alone?

When I am the only one in the house, my foster parents put me in my crate. I feel safe in my crate and don’t mind laying in there until someone comes home to play with me!

17. Where do you sleep?

If I am lucky, I get to sleep in the big, comfy bed with my foster mom, but on most nights I sleep in my crate. I don’t mind sleeping in my crate because it is filled with plenty of warm blankets!

18. What do you love about your foster family?

I love that my foster family has been so patient and understanding throughout my transition. I am so grateful that they have been there through my medical issues and have shown me so much love and compassion. I am so lucky and proud to be an EC dog!

19. What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parents.

I am a survivor of a major dog fighting bust in Tennessee. I spent my life on chain, giving birth over and over to the next generation of fighters. I wasn't taken care of and I had serious medical issues. I am so thankful to the Humane Society of the United States for my initial rescue and to my entire EC family for give me love, strength, and a chance.

Closing lines: Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they grow up. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We are in no way judging you or your lifestyle; we simply want to put our dogs in the best living situation possible. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home. If I sound like the perfect pit bull for your and your family and you are interested in giving me a forever home, do not hesitate! Please fill out an application here and my foster family will contact you to schedule an in-person meet and greet. We look forward to meeting any and all interested applicants.
