Petunia's Story...
"Just a tiny little flower, only 6 pounds, they say I will blossom into a true beauty!
I am easily scared when you first look at me, but once you pick me up, I will melt your heart as I soak up the warmness of your arms.

I was born in a puppy mill, for 5 years, living in a cage and having my babies ripped off of me. You can see the sadness in my eyes, but there is also hope.
Hope that all will be well, with my little world one day, and I will have a happy forever home. A home that has a whole bouquet of love, kindness, patience & all the beautiful fruits of the spirit to be mine to enjoy!"

Petunia is spayed, UTD on her shots, microchipped and on flea & HW preventative. She has also been professionally groomed. All she needs now is the love that she has never had a chance to experience before. Her adoption donation is $250.00.

More about the Papillon breed:
The Papillon is one of the oldest breeds of dog, with a recorded history in Europe going back nearly 700 years. The breed was originally called the epagneul nain or dwarf spaniel, and sported spaniel-type dropped ears.

The dog was later known as the Continental Toy Spaniel (or sometimes just toy spaniel), and this tiny breed is recognizable in 13th through 15th century Italian frescoes. It was featured in many paintings of the Renaissance period; in fact much of the breed's development is known because of its depiction in paintings.

The breed was widespread in Italy during the Renaissance and later perfected by French breeders. Some of its talents include: watchdogging, agility, competitive obedience, and performing tricks.

The Papillon is sometimes called the butterfly dog - because the ears look like butterfly wings. It is a friendly, intelligent dog that is tougher than it looks, and loves outdoor exercise. A gentle and affectionate dog, lively, vivacious and charming.

Playful and amusing but can also be calm, patient, gentle and dignified. Steady and silent. Loves to be cuddled but also likes to romp outdoors. It may be very possessive of its owner and resent outsiders. They are steady, obedient and are not yappers.

Papillons can be trained to perform small tricks. They are in general easy to train. Papillons do best with older, considerate children. They can be a bit dog-aggressive. Good with cats when they are raised with them from puppyhood.

Keep in mind that these are just general breed characteristics - each dog is an Individual personality!

  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Kokomo breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Papillon breeders who help with Papillon rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Kokomo paves the way for another one to be saved.
