My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Breed: Labrador Retriever/Chesapeake Bay Retriever-mix
Sex: Female-sp
Age: 10 months - Pup
Size: Medium (Medium)
Coat-color: Reddish-Chocolate
Group: Sporting/Sporting - Companion
Energy level: Moderate

Loyal, affectionate, devoted, sincere, and extremely sweet-natured, Rojo is an entirely gentle and loving, very sensitive young canine who thrives on human companionship and close contact. Friendly and welcoming of everyone, she has a shy, sweetly-coy side that causes her to greet people, both familiar and unfamiliar, scooting backwards or sideways into them in a “kidney bean” body-style along with enthusiastic tail-wag known as “wiggle-butt.” And while this seems to contradict us saying Rojo has a very social disposition, you really have to meet her to understand – there exists no contradiction. Simply put, she’s a quietly unassuming, politely well-mannered little charmer who will completely engage you and melt your heart with her greeting antics when you meet her. Mild-mannered and tolerant by nature, she enjoys the company of other dogs too, often greeting them with an invitation to play.

An intelligent young dog who enjoys learning new things, Rojo is also active, lively, curious, and gently playful when outdoors, and she needs daily mental stimulation and physical activity to stay happy and healthy. Her exercise needs are pretty modest though and can be met with interactive outdoor romps, regular leashed walks, obedience training, and adventurous outings alongside family members who she will bond very deeply with. Happy-to-be-around, endearing, and always cheerful, she’s an adorable and adoring little love-bug who will want to be an included family member participating in daily activities and snuggling with “her people” whenever possible. Rojo is currently working on her leash skills and good manners training with Monroe SPCA. She’s extremely obedient and quick to please when she knows what to expect; easy to handle and attuned to handler.

Rojo is best suited as an indoor pet and companion for a home with a moderately-active lifestyle. Straight-up 100% total-package family companion, Rojo is looking for responsible, caring owners willing to provide daily structure, regular exercise, consistent leadership, lifelong companionship, and all the love and attention needed by a young pup. As with all Monroe SPCA adoptable dogs, a home visit and a meet-n-greet with any housemate pets will be required prior to adoption.

Rojo currently resides at The Monroe County Animal Shelter; she is adoptable through Monroe SPCA. The shelter is located at 911 South Raisinville Road, Monroe, MI 48161 (just south of the fairgrounds). You can meet her during regular shelter hours; Tuesday through Friday, 11:00 am until 3:30 pm, and Saturday, 11:00 am until 2:30 pm. The shelter is closed Sunday, Monday, and all national holidays. All Monroe SPCA dogs available for adoption at the shelter have an adoption fee of $120.00. This fee includes the dog being spayed or neutered, HW negative, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, and micro-chipped prior to adoption.
