My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Breed: Dutch Shepherd-mix
Sex: Male-nt
Age: 2 years
Size: Medium
Coat-color: Brindle with some White
Group: Herding (Working) - Companion
Energy level: Moderately-low

Friendly, confident, affectionate, steadfast, docile, sincere, and happy-to-be-around, this handsomely elegant, compact shepherd wholeheartedly loves people and is all about pleasing them. Also gentle, loving, and pretty easy-to-please, Jag thrives on human companionship, and he will want to be an included family member participating in as many daily activities as possible. Active and playful outdoors; calm and laid-back indoors, he will need regular physical activity and lots of mental stimulation to stay fit and happy. His physical exercise needs are pretty minimal though and can be met with leashed walks and plenty of chances to run, play, and explore in a fenced yard.

An extremely intelligent boy with a high learning ability, Jag picks up commands quickly and is exceptionally well-mannered, but he’s also extremely sensitive and won’t respond well to rough treatment or harsh corrections. To him pleasing his people and responding to commands is a job he takes seriously, and he thoroughly enjoys and takes great pride in doing so. When training (working) he’s an attentive, serious-minded canine aiming to please. And when not in training-mode, he’s a fun-loving, lively, animated, engaging, sporting, and puppy-like playful dog looking for adventure and inviting his people to join him at every turn. Jag enjoys the company of other dogs too and loves playtime with those he has been properly introduced to. A delightful combination of extreme intelligence, faithful devotion, and jovial lightheartedness makes this genuinely sweet-natured dog an always perfect, truly outstanding family companion.

While a resident at the shelter, Jag participated in good manners training with Monroe SPCA. A star pupil who was always obedient and quick to please, he showed himself to be an enthusiastic learner with a strong work-ethic and an extremely high learning ability. He will definitely excel in obedience and just about any other activity he has an opportunity to participate in.

Jag is best suited as an indoor pet and companion for a home with a calm, low-active to moderately-active lifestyle. He’s looking for responsible, caring owners ready to welcome him as a cherished, always included family member in a home where he is provided daily structure, regular exercise, consistent leadership, lifelong companionship, and a whole lot of hands-on love and attention. As with all Monroe SPCA adoptable dogs, a home visit and a meet-n-greet with any housemate pets will be required prior to adoption.

Jag was rescued by Monroe SPCA from the Monroe County Animal Control Shelter. He currently resides in a home with one of our foster volunteers and another dog who he gets along very well with. You can meet Jag at our regular adoption events and by pre-arrangement with approved Adoption Application. All Monroe SPCA fostered dogs available for adoption have an adoption fee of $200.00. This fee includes the dog being spayed or neutered, HW negative, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, and micro-chipped prior to adoption.
