My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HUNTER: 2 Year Black Male Lab Mix Neutered 95 Pounds

I am Hunter but really that is not my name. I am open to anyone changing my name if you can give me a good home and a home that I will be part of your pack. My owners decided they did not want me any longer so they drove up to the Ukiah shelter and opened the door and pushed me out! This was very scary for me but I am young and healthy so I rebounded just fine. (I had a microchip but my scary owners did not register me.) The lady that runs the shelter told me she had a great place to send me to and she would check to see if they could take me. I know I am not a purebred Lab but since I was so nice with everyone and everything she wanted to give it a try. She contacted Golden Gate Lab Rescue to see what they thought about me and they said sure, that I could come to their program. The reason they would accept me as I got along with everyone I was introduced to, I was fine when anyone took my toys and food away from me, I was fine on a leash when I saw other dogs and I was a really good boy when I met dogs off leash.

I then woke up the next day and was shuffled off to surgery. I was told I would be fine when I woke up, that I would be missing a couple of things but everything would heal nicely. Wow was I sore when I woke up but the next day I was fine and ready to play! I got all my shots, I was heartworm tested and was given a good bath. The nice lady from the shelter gave me a hug and said Hunter be a good boy and I was loaded up for a nice car ride. I was very good in the car just happy to be out of the doggie jail and off to my next adventure. Since I am so young I rebound quickly to all the shuffling around. The car stopped at this beautiful place in the country and another nice lady came out to say hello to me. (Even though she is a very nice lady I knew right away I would have to be on my best behavior and follow what she wanted as she was the leader of the pack!)

I have been at my foster/trainers home for a week and let me tell you I am one happy dog! Swimming in the creeks, play time with the other dogs and time for much needed R&R. I love to please so I am an A student and a student that sucks up to the trainer! (I know a good thing when I see it.) I enjoy that I have a pack leader and I can have fun and learn some new training tricks. If you have the time for a smart, active happy dog please call the rescue rep as I will give you many years of happiness back!

Update from the trainer who is fostering Hunter:

Hunter is doing great! He is young and energetic and with just being neutered it has been a little hard to keep him calm. Overall he is an awesome dog. Hunter is a big boy that had little manners. We are working on his manners each day and he is one smart boy! He did not know his name when he came in so we are using it as much as we can to help him associate with his name. He is doing fine in the crate and will go right in at night when I toss a treat in and doesn’t fuss about it. We started him on obedience training and he already is “sitting” and “downing” and is learning how to walk properly on leash. He is very friendly with all dogs he meets and all he wants to do is play! I am looking forward to getting him more exercise once he is completely healed from his neuter.

Hunter is located in Geyersville.

If you have the time active special boy and want him to be a part of your family, please contact Liz at 415-613-6374 or email liz@jobshopsf.com.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
