My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LUCY: 1 year old spayed black female lab mix 48 Pounds

Lab Rescue was contacted by Lucy's owners as they have a young growing family (twins on the way) and felt that they weren't providing what she needs. Although they describe Lucy as being the sweetest dog ever, they recognize that she is not receiving the time that a young active dog should. Because of the busy lifestyle of the family, she was relegated to the yard all day and was only brought inside at night to be crated for sleep. There was no time for walks and thus this high energy girl had to find elsewhere the mental and physical stimulation that daily walks provide . She has never been to obedience classes so there was no leader in the home and thus Lucy pretty much ran the show. She would dig and chew inappropriate items while in the yard. When she was in the house she would jump on the kids and pretty much stayed in a state of being over excited as she was craving attention. The other children are two and eight years and although Lucy was good around the kids, she is a high energy dog and a bit too much for the kids. She was raised with a dog savvy cat. She will chase the ball, retrieve it at times but then not give it up!

From Lucy's Foster:

Lucy is being fostered with our two kids and three Labs. She was not housebroken when she came to us (being a backyard dog) but she is catching on very quickly that we go potty outside. I showed her where to go and that's just where she went the next day. She is learning what "no" means and is jumping up on people less than when she arrived. She likes to steal clothes and run around with something in her mouth to show off. She is a funny girl - follows me around like my shadow. She likes to lay on your feet and she likes her belly rubs. She is a petite girl at only 48 lbs. but still tries to countersurf although once again, she is learning that no means no. She likes running around playing with the other dogs. She has settled in nicely with our family. She sleeps through the night on a dog bed next to our bed.

What Lab Rescue is looking for:

Lucy is like an overgrown puppy at one year. She just hasn't had an alpha person in her life to teach her what is expected of her. She is exhibiting typical puppy behavior and is very trainable with someone willing to put in the time and effort. Lab Rescue is looking for someone with Lab experience as we want Lucy to go on to be a good canine citizen - something she is quite capable of doing with the right owner. She needs structure, leadership and training and thus someone must be home with her most of the day. Since she hasn't been getting walks she needs work on her leash manners. She will need regular daily exercise (a tired dog is a good dog!) Lucy will thrive in an active household where the dog is included in activities. Any kids in the home must be 8 or older.

Lucy is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, heartworm negative and microchipped. She is located in Concord.

If you have the time and commitment for this sweet girl and are home most of the day to begin raising this sweet "puppy", please contact Sandy @ 650-303-2436. Please leave a message as to how late I can call in the evening. Calls will not be returned until after the fair.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
