My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Moussaka is a sweet, special boy. As you can tell from his "tipped ear" (the end is missing), at one point he was part of a feral cat colony. We think he is about 4-5 years old, and during those years he discovered he loves people... at least once he gets to know them. He is not instantly won over... even after he has been with us for a couple of months, he still hisses and runs to hide when some of us open the door to his Meow Manor room. Once we get down on the floor and he can see us for a few minutes, as long as he knows us he will come out for petting and cuddles and brushing... UNLESS there are two of us in the room. Even if he likes us both individually, he is extra cautious when two of us are in there at the same time. He loves Tiffany (in the video) so much that she affectionately calls him "pest" when she is TRYING to get something done in his kitty room.

His size and coloring *could* mean he has a little Maine Coon in his DNA, but overall, he is just 100% "fluffy big scared cuddle bug."

He is a very big kitty (you can see his relative size in the video), and he will be a treasured companion for whomever is lucky enough to win his heart. He gets along with the other cats he has met, but is not a big fan of dogs (he will teach the dog to leave him alone...). Moussaka's ideal home will have no "scary people" - in his world, that means no people that are LOUD or MOVE FAST... toddlers, particularly energetic older children, or teens that run in big, loud groups of friends would be horrific in Moussaka's world. He says a nice quiet retired person or two... or a single or couple that lead a somewhat zen-like existence... someone who will have the patience to give him time to get to know them, and won't take it personally if he spends 3 weeks hiding under the bed. Someone who will drag him gently out from under the bed now and then during those first few weeks, to remind him coming out and getting cuddles is GREAT. Someone who won't care that their friends and family don't believe they even HAVE a cat, because they have never seen him, and it's been 5 years.

When that special someone invites Moussaka home, he will (eventually) make you feel like the luckiest and most wonderful human on the planet. That first time he jumps up on your bed to snooze with you will be magical.

All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for Moussaka is suggested minimum $20 (Shy Cat discount; more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts. Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to both the Seattle area and Spokane, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!
