My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

THOR is a 3 year old neutered black Lab who weighs 50 pounds but needs to gain some weight. He is a great pup who looks like he has been put in a room with a bunch of starving moths. He has Demodex and is being treated for it and will be great looking in a couple of months. He loves to be with you to get petted and scratched. Hasn't shown any interest in retrieving will chase after them to see what they are just hasn't picked them up to bring them back. . Good with other dog was out with several at the shelter. No cat history. Knows some commands sit and come, sometimes down. Will have a training addendum. Okay on lead. Crate trained may be is house trained as he is keeping his room clean at the kennel. Thor is approved for kids ages 10+.

Update (5/26): Thor is your typical young lab who has really blossomed in the last few weeks. His fur has really grown in and he is really filling out. He’s a sweet, very friendly who has grown particularly fond of tennis balls; sometimes he’ll play fetch and sometimes will just dribble the ball around for himself. He’s happy to amuse himself with toys, likes to nap in the sun rays, and is particularly fond of following humans around to see if he can be of any assistance. He knows sit, off, potty, kennel and has very good recall. Rides really well in the car and walks well on the leash. He is a snuggler and kisser and does like to crawl up in his human's lap or snuggle on the couch. He sleeps on the dog bed in the master bedroom at night. Have had him in the pool swimming as well. Does very well with the other dogs he’s met in the neighborhood along with the resident canine, and was indifferent to the two dog friendly cats that he’s been around. He likes to introduce himself to everyone. He is a GREAT dog with a very sweet disposition.

Update (5/5): Thor is doing well in his foster home. He is a very sweet dog who really likes people and enjoys hanging out at the front of the house watching what’s going on and meeting the neighbors. He gets along well with the resident dog & with another older lab he’s met. Does well on walks, was on a long training lead at the beach and came back every time he was called. Like most labs, he is treat motivated so he should be easy to train. He knows sit, come, is learning off, will benefit from additional training. He is learning the ins and outs of the doggie doors in the house. He does pop up on to see what is on the counters, but we are working on that. Crates easily and rides easily in the car. He really enjoys attention and especially likes the rub downs with a towel after his bath. He’s been snuggling on the sofa to watch TV. He is learning to retrieve. played a couple times today and is definitely getting the hang of it. His skin is improving and his fur is starting to come back in. Thor is a great pup who will bond quickly.

Update (5/2): Thor's fur is starting to grow back in and he is doing a Happy Dance. He decided he needed to celebrate by going to Heather's where he can play with Skipper and gets to go to the beach and swim in the pool.

Note: Thor is heartworm positive. Lab Rescue will pay for Heartworm treatment if done at one of our vets. Thor has been diagnosed with Demodex, he is being treated with oral Ivermectin. : Demodex or Demodectic mange is not considered a contagious disease to other dogs or humans and isolation of affected dogs is not considered necessary.
