My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Doodle is currently 8 months old and weighs approximately 40 lbs. but he's not full grown yet. His adult weight will likely be 55-60 pounds.

Doodle been through a lot already in his short life! He came from a puppy mill and had only been with his new “mom” a couple weeks when she was in a serious accident and could no longer care for him. After he was taken into our rescue he was evaluated by our vet and found to have a heart defect called Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) that caused the blood to flow abnormally through his heart. Thanks to Dogs Unlimited Rescue’s many supporters, the rescue was able to raise the money needed for his life-saving surgery. A device called an Amplatzer ductal occluder was implanted in his heart to correct the defect.

His surgery was a success and Doodle is now a happy, healthy boy but will require some follow up care after he’s adopted to ensure his recovery continues without complications. He has an appointment in June for an echocardiogram and follow up with his heart specialist.

***The cost of his follow up care will be approximately $300 (this is in addition to his adoption fee) and the responsibility of his new family.

Doodle is sweet and very loving. His foster mom describes him as intelligent, athletic, and agile with a bit of mischief mixed in! He also thinks he’s a lap dog in spite of his large size. He keeps them entertained with his puppy antics! Doodle does best when he is kept busy and stimulated both mentally and physically. Otherwise he entertains himself by “collecting” things like his foster mom’s shoes and taking all the dog toys outside.

He is crate trained but doesn’t do well with being left alone and/or crated more than about 4 hours at a time so he would do best in a home where his family is not typically gone all day.

He loves his walks and wants to greet everyone he passes. His foster mom describes him as a “happy soul”. He wins the hearts of everyone he meets! He can be shy in new situations but generally OK as long as he’s with “his people”. He’s hesitant and unsure about getting into the car but once he’s on his way he enjoys the trip. He gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home including the senior and special need dogs. He is playful but knows to be gentle with the smaller dogs.

REQUIREMENTS/NO EXCEPTIONS:
***A HOME WITH ANOTHER WELL-MANNERED, PLAYFUL DOG.
***A FENCED YARD. NO INVISIBLE FENCES.
***A HOME WITHOUT CHILDREN UNDER 8 YRS OLD.
***ABILITY TO PROVIDE FOR MONTHLY GROOMING due to his fast growing coat.
***ABILITY TO MAINTAIN ON HIGH QUALITY DIET due to his food sensitivities.

***NO LONG DISTANCE or OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS. ADOPTER MUST LIVE IN THE GREATER CLEVELAND area. Doodle's new family will need to understand and be willing to accept several supervised visits to their home to allow him to adjust and feel secure in the transition before finalizing the adoption.

Doodle's adoption fee is $300.

If you are interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application located at
https://dogsunlimited.wufoo.com/forms/adoption-application-for-dogs-unlimited-rescue/

All Dogs Unlimited Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on all shots, and are given a monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventative. Upon adoption, all vet records and any current medications are provided to the adopter.

THE SUBMISSION OF YOUR APPLICATION DOES NOT GUARANTEE AN ADOPTION NOR DOES IT OBLIGATE YOU TO ADOPT. Multiple applications are accepted for any available pet and a home is chosen that is the best match between the available pet and the potential furever family. Your application will be processed as quickly as possible and if approved, a home visit would be scheduled. No adoption is final until an Adoption Agreement is presented and agreed to by both parties.

Our goal is to find the right match of our dogs to their new family so all involved are furever happy! Questions: email adopt@dogsunlimitedrescue.org

And THANK YOU for considering a rescue dog for your family!
