My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dottie is a Take Me Home courtesy post. Dottie is not affiliated with Take Me Home. She is not under our care. Take Me Home is not responsible for any adoptions through private parties. For more information on Dottie or If you would like to give this wonderful girl a new home, please contact Jack Leslie via email: jackleslie2004@yahoo.com.

I rescued Dottie 3-1/2 years ago when I was in Mexico. I was at a taco stand in the middle of nowhere, and there were quite a few stray dogs around. Most of them were very scared, but Dottie was very brave and kept approaching all the customers, demanding attention (and food). I couldn't leave her there, and ended up grabbing her and another puppy, taking them to the vet, and then bringing them back to LA with me.

Both Dottie (then called Baja) and the other puppy quickly found great homes. Dottie was adopted by a really nice couple who instantly fell in love with her. They have kept in touch with me over the intervening years, sending photos of Dottie hiking, playing, etc.

The couple had a baby several months ago, and, unfortunately, Dottie has not adjusted well to the new addition. They have brought in trainers and spent a lot of money, but Dottie remains unpredictable around the baby. Some dogs adapt well to babies, and some do not.

In general, though, Dottie is great with people and other dogs. She was even raised with a cat who she loved. She would probably be fine with older kids - it's just the baby energy that is throwing her off. Her parents have tried everything and are devasated, but they realize that it would be in everyone's best interest if they found another home for Dottie.

Dottie is around three-and-a-half years old now. According to her DNA test, she is mostly Australian Shepherd with some Weimaraner and German Shepherd. She weights roughly 33 lbs.

This is how her family describes Dottie: "She is a wonderful pup and beautiful soul. She is affectionate and very obedient. Doesn't chew on shoes or furniture and has never had an accident. She loves walks and hikes and playing catch. She will sleep quietly in the house all day or play outside all day and do very well with different situations. She is not hyper active and listens well. She loves her crate and minds well when asked to go in it."

If you are interested in adopting Dottie, let me know, and I will put you in touch with her owners. She would be great for a single, couple, or family with older kids.
