My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Diesel: 1 ½ Year Old Black Male Lab Neutered 83 Pounds

Diesel came to lab rescue from the Napa County Animal Shelter, not of any wrongdoing on his part. His owners had contacted Lab Rescue; a time was set to meet this handsome boy, but they didn’t show up for the meet. Lab Rescue was very concerned and had a feeling he had been dumped at the local shelter, a call was made and sure enough poor Diesel was there and very scared. Lab Rescue stepped in, swooped him up, and before Diesel knew what was happening this sweet boy was on his way to our boarding facility.

When Lab Rescue talked with Diesel’s owners, they had said that he was a young boy full of energy. They did not get him out for regular exercise, which is one thing this young boy needs. A tired dog is a “good dog!” They had not worked with him on training and manners, he will jump on people, he does not understand yet that this is not how you greet humans. He knows a few commands, “sit,” “down,” and “shake. Diesel will pull on the leash when going for walks, with consistency and patience he will learn this is not appropriate behavior. He gets excited when he sees other dogs, he will pull and bark to get close and say “Hi.” He has never been in a tussle with another dog, just wants to play. Diesel is very food motivated and wants to please, so some high-value treats and positive reinforcement and consistency will be the ticket for this young boy to learn good behavior. He lived with a 13-year-old boy, has been around younger children, but we feel because of his high energy he should go to a home with older children. Since Diesel is a bundle of energy, he may knock over smaller children. Diesel is crate trained, and even though he spent a lot of time outside he is house trained. He has lived with a cat, but it was great fun to chase him around the house.

Lab Rescue was able to talk with Diesel veterinarian, they described Deisel as a very nice “goofy” boy that needed someone to pay attention to him and give him some guidance and training. They also mentioned that he is a healthy boy. They were very shocked and saddened to hear that Diesel had been taken to the shelter.

Diesel needs a family where he will be welcomed into the home, make him part of the family and all their activities. He will need patience, well-defined boundaries and clearly communicated expectations, and in return you will get an awesome companion to be a member of your family. He is neutered, up to date on his shots, microchipped, and heartworm negative.

If you have the time for this happy boy and want him to be a part of your family, please contact Liz 415-613-6374 or liz@jobshopsf.com.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
