My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What a sweet and kind Poodle mix our Theo is! At 9 - 12 months old and just about 11 lbs, Theo is an incredibly beautiful guy with a cotton-soft coat with that slight curl that speaks of a Poodle mix.
It's so very sad when the guardian of a very young and sensitive dog like Theo doesn't even meet his basic needs. It's so fortunate that Theo is young enough that with love and nurturing, he can blossom into a self-confident and joyous adult dog.
The following is the foster report provided by Theo's Texas mom:

Theo is as sweet, shy and as docile as they come. Despite all the terrible neglect that he has suffered in his life, he will wag his tail and derive joy from his relationships. Theo doesn't seem to want to play..but with time and trust, he will develop the desire. At this point, Theo is very quiet and hangs out quietly observing all that is going on around him...we feel like he's very intellectual and is figuring out the world.
Theo would be the perfect lap dog for an older couple or individual. He will bond like none other and be the most devoted companion imaginable. I think small children would be overwhelming for Theo...plus he's so perfect for retirees - why not use his talents? Theo has been mistreated in his one year of life and it seems like he just wants to heal... eat a lot, then rest a lot, take a stroll and be the greatest lap dog and lovebug ever! Theo loves me (if I must say so myself) and desires to share his time and heart with me. He's so happy to be a foot or lap-warmer while I'm on the computer and will follow me out to work in the garden...he's not pushy but just wants to be close. Theo loves petting SO much as I am sure no one has ever loved on him. He is a quiet and reserved dog...very much like an old soul. But no foster dog has ever been so very LOVING and expressed how grateful they are to be with me...Theo is absolutely one of a kind in his sweetness!
I have several cats and 2 small and calm dogs... Theo has been perfect. I think he is even a little afraid of them. I would not place Theo with a high energy or playful dog-he's just too sensitive and people-oriented for that. Theo is anything but vocal and actually hasn't made a sound since I have had him. He expresses himself more with cuddling and soft touches. Theo doesn't like to be crated but baby gates might be good. According to his foster mom, his house training skills are superb, as long as he is taken outside somewhat regularly.
Theo is such a sweetie-pie with all people. I took him to the vet yesterday and he did great with the vet who is a man (some rescues don't care for men).
Theo does need lots of TLC as he has been neglected. But again, he's young and resilient and with lots of good food and kind treatment he will blossom and gain self-esteem. For now Theo needs to be in a quiet and very nurturing home. I've grown to love Theo and wish him the best home ever!

When Theo was identified with a great temperament, Farfel's spoke up to bring him to safety (and a new forever family) in Colorado. Once he senses that all present are his friends (it may take a few minutes initially), Theo is so warm and friendly that he always hopes every pat and kind word will turn into a lifelong friend. Both people and other dogs are drawn to Theo for his kind attitude and quiet and introspective ways.
Farfel's Rescue has determined that Theo needs a very calm home where he is an active and important member of the family. We feel that this would be more possible in an adult home (retirees would be perfect) where there's a more predictable environment. Theo would be overjoyed to spend parts of the day outdoors taking in the sunshine of Colorado. Then at day's end, he's the ultimate snuggler and sleeps soundly through the night.

It is Theo's shy love affair with life and all the hardships that he's suffered along the way that motivates us to put him through Heartworm treatments..his precious life deserves to be saved! Theo has tested HW+ and Farfel's (with the help of Rescued Pets Movement of Houston and Dr G in Denver) has volunteered to save this very special dog's life. The heart worm treatment process involves several shots followed by a short period of quiet crate time for the dog. We have found this protocol to be very successful and the dogs go on to live long, happy lives.

We are seeking an adopter to lovingly care for Theo as he becomes Heartworm negative. It's quite an easy rehab process as it only entails quiet time with soft words and belly rubs. Farfel's will pay all vet bills and provide premium food and treats for this special pup as he grows healthily heartworm-free.

Theo appears to be a non-shedding guy - once he loses his dull shelter coat, it will be replaced by wavy and flowing hair that will be cotton-soft and shining. Theo will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his stunning coat healthy and matt-free.
Theo will be arriving on transport in Boulder on 4/24/15. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If you're interested in this kind and devoted companion, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
