My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gigi 5 yr old female Platinum Mink Tonkinese

Here is a lovely girl. Her super soft fur is all soft colors. She is a little plump. She is full of fun and personality; she’s quite a character. She is Lavender’s mother, and she must be adopted with her daughter. They have always been together.

Not many people are really familiar with this lovely breed. Let me quote a description of Tonkinese cats from the Cat Fancy Assn.

“The Tonkinese personality makes this breed popular as a companion cat. Loving, social, active, playful...yet content to be a lap cat. Tonkinese are firmly convinced that humans were put on Earth to love them. Intelligent and generous with their affection, a Tonkinese will supervise all activities with curiosity.

The Tonkinese is a natural at inventing and playing games, using favorite toys to play fetch or delighting in games of tag and hide-and-seek with other pets – or even humans. Tonkinese kittens are great fun, but even the adults tend to remain playful throughout their lives. Scratching/climbing posts and a variety of toys are much appreciated by these funloving cats. A Tonkinese will quickly take over, running your home and your life! They quickly endear themselves to family and visitors, becoming your “door greeter” and entertaining guests.”

Gigi, as I have come to know her, is a good example of her breed. She is playful, interactive with humans, and involved with everything. She is great fun.

She was a new Tonk breeder’s queen and has only had one litter or two. Things changed in her breeder’s life and she decided it was not the right time to continue with her hobby of showing and breeding Tonkinese cats. So Gigi, Lavender, and some others, have come to me.

Just a word about her color designation. Tonkinese cats come in three coat patterns.

* “Pointed “ cats have a dark contrasting color more like the “Seal Point” color pattern we are familiar with of in Siamese and Ragdolls. They have blue eyes.

* “Mink” cats have a lighter contrasting color. Mink cats must have “ aqua” eye color.

* ”Solid”cats have the lowest contrast in color. They have green to yellow green eyes.

Lavender and Gigi make a wonderful pair. Some family will be very lucky to have their beauty and entertaining company.

Gigi is litterbox perfect. She eats a ph balanced dry food for her bladder health, and loves wet food.

Her foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.
