My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DUKE is a 4 1/2 year old neutered black male Lab who weighs 65 pounds. Duke is a very sweet, friendly, calm guy. He loves people and likes to just hang out. He is quiet and has good manners. He has the most soulful, beautiful brown eyes! Duke was an owner give up to a rural shelter. The owner reported that he and his sister were not getting along and that he kept chasing the cat so they turned him in. They said he not good with cats at all. He is good with dogs but he does prefer a calmer, laid back dog to a bouncy, in your face one so maybe that was the issue with his sister. He is doing fine with other dogs at his foster. He is easy on leash and a good rider. He did well in the crate last night and has had no accidents. He is approved for kids 6+.

Update ( 7/4): Look into my eyes and realize that I'm a sweet boy looking forward to someday (hopefully soon) meeting my forever family. Now that I have you under my spell, I need to give you information so that you know to ask for me when you call your AC. My name is Duke and I'm pretty laid back. I've gone through that puppy stage and I'm now a very settled 5 year old boy. As your only dog, I can lay at your feet loving on you and (hint, hint) tending to that favorite bone that you got me. It doesn't matter if we live in an apartment, townhouse or a home, I'll be happy and content being with you. You see, I'm very low maintenance. Feed me, give me water, take me for walks, a place to rest my head, LOVE me and cherish me. In return I will give you my heart and soul.

Update (6/25): Can I tell you about the time I chomped down on a dinosaur bone? Once upon a time I wander over where there was this big pile of toys and peering out from underneath them was this most glorious bone of all! It was huge! The problem, it was still attached to the dinosaur! Gotcha! I'm just kidding but I'm very serious about my bones! I just LOVE chewing on them (see my pearly whites) & can pretty much pass the time away being happy doing so while waiting for you to come home.
Hi, my name is Duke and I'm 5 years old. I'm looking for my forever family. I need a family that will just want me for me. You see, I'm the king (um hum...Duke) of my castle. I'm ok with other dogs but I want my space to be mine. Guess you can say I'm selfish when it comes to loving you and don't want to share you. I can live in a house, townhouse or an apartment just as long as I have my bone to chew on, a soft place to rest my head and your love. Call your AC to come visit me in Amelia.

Update (6/16): Duke, a sweet and loving 5 year old boy, is great meeting other dogs as long as it is just that. He isn't looking for a playmate and is happy being with just his people. He's fun, loving and independent but he wants his home to be his castle. This could be called his "Dukedom". Duke absolutely says NO kitty cats in his domain but loving on you is a major YES! If you're looking for an independent boy that will cherish you being there with him, call your AC to visit!

Update (6/9): Duke is the SWEETEST boy ever! He loves his people but is not pushy. He is content to just hang out in the yard or in the house and entertain himself. He has wonderful manners too!

Update ( 6/5): Duke is getting a complex - his phone is not ringing :-( He i s the most loving guy and so calm and nice. He likes to zip around and play some but for the most part is a big ol couch potato that just wants LOVE. He wonders if people are getting the wrong idea about him? While he would probably prefer to be the only king in his castle, he is not a mean boy. He pretty much ignores other dogs as long as they are not in his face. There are plenty of other dogs in his foster home, he just prefers to hang out on his own. He would never seek out trouble and is generally just a sweet loving guy! Oh and those eyes...those eyes!

Update (5/22): Duke is such a sweet, loving boy. He has wonderful house manners, is easy on leash, is not demanding and he LOVES his people so much. While he would prefer to be the only dog in his household, he is fine with other dogs in social setting, on walks etc. We feel like he was bullied by another dog in his past and he just would prefer to not share his people/his place with them due to that. He has met all the other dogs at the foster without problem, he just prefers to be on his own with his people. He is calm and a great house guest but still likes to zip around and play! See him on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8uI-PqU76Y

Update (5/13): Duke is still doing very well in his foster. He is sweet and loves, loves his people. He will need to be the only dog in his home as he likes to be the king of his castle. He does fine with meeting other dogs and does not seek trouble at all - he just does not do well with sharing his domain and his people that he loves so much so would prefer to be the only one getting the lab love in the house. We are working on this daily but for now he would be better on his own. He is loving and playful but very calm in the house. He walks great on leash and is fine with meeting dogs out and about. There are other dogs in his foster home and he does not seek out any discord but prefers to hang out with his people or take his outdoor time on his own. He has so much love to give and will make someone very happy!
