My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our Sparkie is a delightful little character who came to us as a city stray, just sprung from a large animal care and control facility. Rumor has it that Sparkie was not the most gracious shelter guest, and his reputation preceeded him by a mile. Away from the hostile shelter environment, Sparkie morphed into a friendly, and sociable fellow, with adults, but not all that agreeable to kid touch.

As luck would have it, we placed Sparkie with a single gentleman, a divorcee in need of some unconditional love. And, Sparkie delivered in spades! Then, as luck would have it, the single gentleman remarried and Sparkie did not blend into the new "Brady Bunch" family structure. And so, he is now back with us, for a third shot at "forever."

Sparkie appears to be a double dose of Terrier, most likely Rat Terrier, with a smidge of Jack Russell tossed in for comic effect. Sparkie has the JRT squat, stocky build, with the Rat's triangular head, elongated muzzle and tri coloring. He has the rowdy, fiesty, high energy that attracts Terrier lovers in droves. Sparkie will be the shining star in an active, adult home. He could easily blend into a multi-dog pack, with other high energy dogs, but has the typical Terrier disdain toward the feline population.

Exercise is paramount in any Terrier lifestyle, and Sparkie is typical Terrier. He loves the outdoors, and would make the ideal running, hiking or powerwalking companion. He needs proper neckwear and a sturdy 4 to 6 foot leash, rather than a flexilead, otherwise he will zigzag and foul up the pace. If left to become bored and frustrated, Sparkie will think up some hijinks. A tired Terrier makes no mayhem!

Obedience work should also be part of Sparkie's routine. He has good grasp of his basic commands, and adopters will be able to handle him expertly from the get go. Sparkie's daily obedience sequence provides the mental stimulation that complements his exercise routine. He is an enthusiastic student, eager to please, and motivated by praise and treats.

Sparkie has excellent house manners and is housetrained and crate trained. He is in excellent health, and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed. If you are interested in Sparkie, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call Denise at 720-903-0636 for more info.
