My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

By Volunteer Gwen: Morgan has been at CARE, Inc. since she was found in 2013 abandoned in a ditch with her litter mates. Since our rural county has no shelter, such a cruel death for newborns is not unusual along our dirt roads. We suspect someone with a purebred lab had an accidental breeding with a neighborhood rambler, possibly a boxer or bully mix, and just dumped the pups. CARE, Inc. tried to save the entire litter but only Morgan survived. She has had the best of food and medical care, and it shows in her beautiful coat and robust health. Morgan was a happy puppy, enjoying lots of different kennel mates and volunteer caretakers. She is now a a laid-back, gentle two-year old dog who gets along well with critters and people. She loves men, women and children equally.

I recently kept Morgan overnight at my house before transporting her to a training facility where she auditioned to be a therapy dog for veterans. She responded perfectly, picking up basic obedience commands in one session, getting along well with a host of new people and dogs. There were more dogs than vets at the week-long session. Everyone loved her and she qualified with flying colors, however, at 62 pounds she was edged out by smaller dogs who wouldn't take up as much room in public spaces and transportation. Now Morgan is available for adoption to the general public.

I had not met Morgan before she stayed with me overnight. She greeted my husband and me as if we were long lost friends, not a bit of shyness. I was amazed at her good manners indoors, in the bath and with my own pack of spoiled dogs during the night and day that I fostered her. She loves fetching more than any dog I've met and she also adores water, not even minding the bath I gave her. If I didn't have too many dogs already, I'd adopt her myself. But after living her entire life in a kennel she deserves to have more attention and love than I can spread over my crowd.

I posted a Facebook album about Morgan called "What can you learn in a sleep over?" It's astounding how much you can learn in one night and day about a dog's stability, health, energy and outlook on life. If you are FB person you can see my public album at https://www.facebook.com/gwen.c.roland/media_set?set=a.967393279952260.1073741854.100000447912044&type=3

If you aren't on FB I can email you some of the photos and captions. She is an awesome young, solid dog ready to devote her life to some lucky family. Maybe yours?
